We have C8 too. We were looking for a 7 seater we ruled out the Zafira sized car exactly because of this.

The back row of a C8 should be as safe if not safer than the rear seats of a Focus size car.

Ive had no reliability problems so far although weve only had it for about 6 weeks... After reading forums like this i do have a sense of foreboding and a need to keep my fingers crossed!

That's why we bought it too. But we didn't bank on the cam belt going prematurely and the car needing a new engine. I love the space, but if I did buy another, I'd buy a newer model. I wouldn't recommend a pre-2006 diesel one, though.

    To pose another question.

Why are these cars getting 5 Star NCAP ratings when they clearly aren't safe for all the occupants?

My guess is that the car manufacturers over the years have designed their car to get 5 star NCAP ratings.

If it's not tested, theres not as much effort put into it.

Think there was a similar thing with motorbike helmets. New methods came out (Sharp)and you had helmets costing hundreds of pounds not scoring as well as ones under £100.

Well maybe we should be changing tack and asking the question why aren't NCAP testing MPVs fully?

I suspect I already know the answer.

It's not just MPVs that are affected. Look at the rear seats in the Toyota IQ, the C1/107/Aygo and all of these city cars.

And then look at a crash test in an IQ.

Almost looks comfy with all them airbags

I think that we are conditioned to seeing car on car accidents and saying how lovely a car on car accident is because all these airbags deploy and the vehicles are of similar mass which gives a uniform result.

When a HGV hits a car the mass of it won't be that of a happy NCAP crash test but carnage and a mangled unidentifiable car.
