Check out the ebay chat board for sellers.

Never accept paypal for collection items, always cash on collection.

Look at the person who has been scammed today accepting paypal for a collection item.

Also check out those of us who have not been scammed with PayPal on collection. I'm not saying the scam is not possible it is and it happens on any site that allows PayPal to be used (there's be on one of the Facebook groups I sell on at the moment). However eBay say you must take PayPal and therein lies the dilemma if you sell on eBay.

If you don't want to risk the scam then sell elsewhere wherre you can insist on cash. If you do list on eBay and someone pays by PayPal then what? Refund, pay your FVfs and get a neg...hardly ideal for anyone wo wants to keep selling.

We all know about the scam, it is not useful though to just say ' only take cash' when buyer has every right to refuse.

I have accepted paypal before on collection items without any probs, its just that i get the feeling that this buyer may pay and still not collect for some time. Good in someways that they pay but the downside is i need the space.

If you list on eBay you can't pick and choose which buyers you deal with and how. I agree the lack of contact is annoying, and you've gone past the point where it is probably beneficial to hang on for contact, but if you are trying to pick which person you deal with you will probably have difficulties shifting it as you need to bear in mind the buyers' interests too.

It's either an NPB now or risk them coming back later on and claiming their item. I do think there is a reduced risk of an NPB actually responding to the dispute if you just open one, leave it to run and close it, but if you relist now, sell it again, and the original buyer returns, then you are stuffed.

For the sake of four days I'd open an NPB now. If you need the sale quickly then sell to a friend - eBay always has a long lead time and in some way a buyer coming a bit further than normal, as is possible with advertising the item nationwide, often needs a bit longer to arrange transport etc, so selling it locally through a local face-to-face service like an ad in the paper or a shop window might actually be more advantageous than the vagaries of eBay.

Horses for courses - and I don't think eBay is your nag here.

These posts make me think, Its tempting to put £999 delivery if they cannot collect and pay cash on collection.

Might get posted up on here for it and actually get a better price for it :)
