Cash on Collection - No Communication

I sold an item on Ebay 9 days ago which was cash on collection, listing stated that they must contact within 72 hours to arrange collection. When listing ended I sent the buyer my contact details and asked them to call me in advance to arrange as I can not get to e mails or ebay messages in the day. Also item is large and i do not have the storeage space.
After 4 days I had a message through Ebay asking if they could collected that day (message sent lunch time). When home from work I replied stating I had been out and cant get to emails or messages in the day time and if they still wanted to come and collect they could. Sent them ebay message and text as requested.
5 days further down the line and no further contact from buyer. I've sent them 2 messages saying that they need to contact me by phone ( by the end of 7 August) to arrange collection by the weekend and to remember that I need advance notice but no contact recieved.
My question is would you open an unpaid item dispute or send a canelation request??
If unpaid they could pay by paypal and still not collect for some time or if going canelation route they may not agree.
Looking for some advice from more experienced ebayers out there. I've had an account for 1.5 years but only sold around 190 items, with no problems.

Why do you want cash on collection? Why not get paid through paypal?0

You need to think about that before you list an item on eBay as buyer can legitimately pay by Paypal if you open an unpaid item dispute. People should think a bit about this before listing if they don't want Paypal - it's too late by the time it ends with a winning bidder.
However, that should not stop you from opening an unpaid item dispute. If the buyer isn't in contact, don't make any fuss, just open one - chances are they won't bother getting in touch.
They haven't made an effort to contact and say they don't want it, so don't bother with a cancellation at all."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I think cash on collection items are a minefield when they are unpaid or not collected.
Personally I do tend to open an NPB as I only lost items that I am prepared to take PayPal on if buyer insists, but I see no easy way of sorting out problems with collection items.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soo - hate to correct someone but presumably you mean 'list'. Good post though; totally agree."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

My iPad auto corrects and I get some really odd corrections. 'lost' instead of 'list' is not so bad, it does keep trying to turn PayPal in papal which I find amusing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Oh, I so hate predictive text. The first thing I do with a new mobile phone is find out how to turn it off."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

The iPad can be irritating but at least it doesn't let me type account in my usual manner and upset the spam filter. What really annoys me is that MSE won't stay open on it, it just closes down without warning and I lose every page open and any work not saved. It only does that if I have MSE open thoughI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If my computer did that I might get some work done. The dissertation is nearly finished, though, thank goodness, though I virtually stopped work for the Olympics. Next week I shall read through what I've written and find out just how much of it is complete gobbledegook..."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I have accepted paypal before on collection items without any probs, its just that i get the feeling that this buyer may pay and still not collect for some time. Good in someways that they pay but the downside is i need the space.I think cash on collection items are a minefield when they are unpaid or not collected.

Totaly agree, I normaly will accept paypal on collection items even though I know many people refer to various scams, but i have found the majority of people to be honest.
.......
Thanks for all your replys.
