For those who are with Eon, what do you think about them scrapping the 2 tier system to standing charges in the Autumn?

I've just found out about it and I'm not pleased at all! They say it will make bills easier to understand, but I think it will be another chance for them to put them higher. Plus I've heard people having proplems when moving home, and also knowing you're still being charged when not using any electricity, when say going on holiday? :(

OMG e.on have just upped my dual fuel monthly direct debit to £136 from £111. Up until 10th May the monthly had been £97. I haven't changed any usage, just me and OH. What is going on???

If unit prices go up then so will the Direct Debit (unless you use less).

I'm always trying to find ways of cutting our utility bills but unless i can stop using the tumble dryer i seem to be running out of options.

My Direct Debit is £104 for a family of 3 (hubby is only here weekends though).

We've had no notification of this from Eon. All we keep getting are A4 sized leaflets, patting themselves on the back for not putting up prices in 2012, but we know they'll be announcing them next year. That will be bad enough, but I'm worried the standing charges will be higher than the present higher tier.

Ah, just looked on Eon site and I found this bit about it, and it says it's for new customers and those who switch? Don't get that.

Don't know why you think its a problem, consumer groups have been pushing for simpler bills for an age. Mainly for the people too idle to do the work themselves.
Most of the big six are withdrawing their cheap tariffs the consumer it would appear wants simple, not cheap.

i think all energy companies will be showing the standing charge.

think it has been asked for by OFGEM
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

    Hiya Candy53,

Just to be clear, we will only be bringing this in for new tariffs we launch from September. All customers on existing tariffs will be able to stay on them.

If you’ve got a tariff with an end date, then when your tariff comes to an end, you would then need to move on to one of the new tariff’s.

It was in the latest re-set press release.

I think you'll find that people want cheap bills, not higher priced ones just because they're more simple to understand.

I know Ofgem want this but I personally think it will increase bills. We'll have to see, but if the standard charges arn't going to apply to present customers, then I for one will be pleased.

Standing charge tariffs make no difference to the average user. The only losers will be very low users. Unless you are on holiday for a whole billing period then again no difference.
