Just spoke to them, the lady said they have estimated what work I have done with other trust,so I explained 'none' she has amended my tax code to 836L & will inform my employer, so will get a bit of a refund in next pay (hopefully!) Happy days!! i will get taxed BR if I do extra agency shifts & will be able to earn with them up to £2250 (I think she said?) either way I wouldnt do that amount of extra shifts in a year anyhoo! Right that's fine - looks like they had split the codes. 810L is the normal code but the extra £260 is presumably your uniform allowance.i will get taxed BR if I do extra agency shifts & will be able to earn with them up to £2250 (I think she said?) either way I wouldnt do that amount of extra shifts in a year anyhoo! Using a BR tax code you will be taxed on the whole lot at 20% but that's what it should be as your main employment is using your tax-free allowances. You can earn what you like, nothing or everything so someone is getting a bit mixed up.0 -
What the lady you spoke to has done is this:
Restored your tax code to 8365 tax free before tax paid on main NHS job and told agency bank NHS trust deduct BR from earnings if any on that job. That will mean that tax deducted cumulatively will be right on the main job and any additional will also be right. Not too sure what she meant by £2250 being available on 2nd job though - think that may be incorrect. You are getting an extra £260 in tax free each year, so you might already be getting the uniform laundering as well as something else. Are you very specialised in your work? Normal flat rate for that is £100.
How many years have you worked the main part time job? If it's not more than 4 then under the new rules intorduced (I think it was budget 2 years back) you can go back and claim washing a uniform allowance, which will be a set amount for the NHS negotiated with a union. I know my OH's is £60/annum, which equates to £12 less tax per year. Check it has not been added in already as you do have something on there already. Might be shoes? Download form P87 and fill it in and claim as soon as you can. I think you will only be able to go back to 2008/9 but you could try and see if you can go back to 2007/8. You will need your P60's for those years - keep a copy before you send off the originals though. They should also pay you any interest for any refund over a year old as well. Do it now or lose it. I know it does not sound much, but everything helps. If you can find the P2's from the earlier years, it will say what the extra allowances are for, so I'd check those before going the P87 route.0 -
Thanks horseunderwater, I was also unsure re the £2250,although I would not look to that amount of extra shifts in one year so that ok, I have always paid BR tax on extra agency?bank work I have done over the years for various trusts. I have worked at current trust for over 4 years part time.:hello:0

Because the 'default' code for this year is 810L, but many people are on different codes for some of the reasons above.Signature removed for peace of mind0
