Vodafone signal issue - what to do

Got a bit of an issue here, on behalf of my parents.
Both of them are on Vodafone, and usually there is no problem at all. There is a mast on the hill close to where we live so signal is usually excellent (4/5 bars on 3G). But since Sunday evening neither of them have had any signal at all. This has also been confirmed by a couple of my friends living nearby who are also on Vodafone. My father works 3 miles away and he gets signal at work, and another of my friends who lives around 3 miles away in the other direction also gets signal on Vodafone. So it seems to be as if the mast nearby has failed.
Now I've sent a tweet to Vodafone asking about it, and posted on their network issue forum (and have had replies from 3 other people saying they are in the same area and have the same issue) but have not had any reply from Vodafone themselves (apart from a reply on twitter saying if there is an issue to post on the forum - no investigation on their part which other networks seem able to do).
I am going to advise my parents to give Vodafone a call later on today, but until then is there anything I can do to try to find out what is going on (as I don't even know if they have acknowledge the issue yet - let alone started to try to fix it)?

They can get some of the line rental back if they don't have signal for more than 3 days:10 Credits if there is a failure of the service
a If we have to maintain our network or if there is a technical fault on our network that means you can’t use all our services for three days in a row, we’ll credit you for the line-rental charge for the period the service was not available.
I'm sure Vodafone's representatives on this forum will be along soon. They will be able to find out what's going on.0
