thx for all the replies. i will download it on hubbys laptop when he gets in as not sure where the usb stick is. will update hwo i got on later.

Control Panel --> Recovery --> "Open System Restore" -->
{choose a date}

I don't think you are going far enough back in System Recovery.

Check this out and read carefully. It will show you how to recover your system. Please scroll right down and make sure you read all the options.

If you do manage to get your system back, change all your FB & e bay passwords and any usernames. If I can ask you another question: do you use any or all parts of your name, as an email address? This is one of the ways in which people have been caught out. Eg - a neighbour used her name in a Google mail address (i.e. marybloggs@googlemail.co.uk). She fell for a phone call from "an official source" and was hacked to oblivion.

If you do that, please asap, change it in your email account.

Using system restore to get rid of a virus/worm/malware will rarely (if ever) work as they will reinstall themselveson reboot. In most cases to get rid of a virus system restore has to be disabled first.

This will get rid of all restore points.

The only way to get rid of these things is identify and treat with the appropiate medicine in some cases there will be a removal tool in others it is deep editing of the registry yourself (experts only).

Identify the infection and search for a specific solution this will probably need to be done on another PC first.

Also try one of the standalone virus checkers like stinger from Mcafee or as others have said malwarebites.

Yep, so it has hosed your hosts file most likely - but *how* it did that is the question. In order to do that, it may have caused other damage, for instance it might stop your antivirus, etc from running.

However, it's downloading now, give it a try, and report back if there's a problem

all sorted now, many thanks for yr help. what i cant understand is hw my AV let it in, in the first place and it never showed up in trend micro search.

i spoke too soon, it was all sorted, but just opened up another FB page and its happened again!

Good news but...How did you sort it , there may be other bits lurking ?
If Malwarebytes sorted it post the log , one of the more expert guys may give some more help

Be ultravigilant for a while - I feel it's a bit like a relationship, once the trust is broken, it's rather tough to get back...
