Help us with our Honeymoon...please!

My girlfriend and I ae getting married next June and have been looking into our Honeymoon for the past couple of months. Over the last few weeks though it seems as though my girlfriends idea of a honeymoon has changed quite a lot and now I'm not sure where we should go.

Ideally we are looking for somewhere that has nice weather in June and nice beaches/hotels to relax in the day but my girlfriend now also wants to find places that have plenty of activities in the day night such as visiting waterfalls, water parks, shopping, seeing dolphins and options for a bit of nightlife.

Ive been looking and looking and I think now that I cant see the trees from the forest and its getting to be hard work. Are there any suggestions people can give to help??

Just as a quick point my girlfriend has already ruled out: Egypt, Mexico (last holiday) and ideally wants to go long haul with our honeymoon lasting about 10 nights. Any help would be much appreciated.

Dolphins in the wild or captivity? Or perhaps best not to ask?

Well Hawaii would be nice and could fit the bill - but I think you might need to tell the Board your budget.

A honeymoon is to relax and unwind after the wedding, so try and rule out so many activities and nonsense like dolphins, (that's for kids).

    Dominican Republic.

My honeymoon, 15 years ago was in St Lucia. I would love to go back, but as yet have never managed to afford it (with 2 kids in tow).

It has everything you'd want (well except the dolphins). Beautiful scenery, fabulous beaches, a bit of culture and history. The rainforest and waterfalls provide a contrasting scenery to visit and the Pitons (volcanoes) are an equally interesting day out. The fabulous cruise liner docks provide fantastic shopping and the Friday night 'jump up' allows visitors to mingle with the locals and celebrate Caribbean style.

It's a beautiful place and I would love to go back and maybe one day I will. We have friends going there next weekend after their wedding . Intrestingly I've just this morning found a Caribbean dollar, after all these years.

Sorry should have said wild dolphins sightseeing only. Not one for captive dolphins after seeing a documentary a while back.

Ive tried to push for a relaxing beach honeymoon and the plan was a Maldives honeymoon with a few days in Duabi until very recently but now the better half has dismissed that idea!

Ive looked at St Lucia and it does look amazing, it is an option for us but wasnt sure if it would fit the bill for my girlfriend.

Lastly the Budget is around £3500 - £4000. Ideally closer to the £3500 to give us some money to spend on excursions etc whilst out there.

What do people think of Koh Samui in Thailand? Anybody think it would suit our requirments?

Thailand fit's the bill you can swim with Dolphins at Oasis seaworld, But the weather can be a bit so&so with rain in June but it passes quick, will be hot & humid, another option that springs to mind is Florida beautiful beaches and loads to places to swim with dolphins you could always head to the Keys or St Augustine if the idea of Disney leaves you cold, once again the weather is on the damp side that time of year :D fancy the Caribbean Aruba would be you best bet as it's slightly outside of the hurricane belt

Congrats on your wedding and have a fab time wherever you decide to head too

We went to galley bay antigua 2 years ago in july for our honeymoon.

Its very quiet, a great beach.

We did a trip to stingray city, which was one of the best things i have ever done, might meet your dolphin request in a round about way lol.

Speed boat trip around the island stopping for lunch was great, the boat stopped at a few other hotels and can honestly say we had the best beach.

You can do trips round the island, shirley heights for a view and an evening of entertainment, i think was a sunday night.

You can do a trip to Barbuda but it would be a long day and not sure how expensive.

I loved it just to chill and relax, just stepped out of my little cottage style room staight on the beach.
  • I would defo recommend Florida. We went in September 2010 for our honeymoon and loved every single minute of it. It had a little bit of everything. I would never go there during the school holidays but i would go in June.

It has all the theme parks so you can be as busy as you want (Universal/Disney/SeaWorld). Or as relaxing as you want at Discovery Cove ( A must for a honeymoon ) You can swim with dolphins, feed birds on your hands in the aviary, snorkel with huge fish and stingrays and drift along the lazy river through the tropical gardens - perfect!!!

Romance at the Disney parks. We watched the fireworks on a boat on the lagoon overlooking the iconic Disney castle. Lovely walks around the Lagoon of an evening too.

Hotels. I would recommend the Polynesian, we didnt stay there as it was too expensive for us but we did visit them all. When we go back we are staying here. Perfect for a couple on their honeymoon.

Disney cruise. Best part of the holiday. 3 day Bahamian cruise which includes 1 day on Mickeys private island, beautiful beaches including Adult only beach which is very quiet and relaxing. You also spend 1 day in Nassau and we pre booked an excursion to a Dolphin Lagoon. You can swim with Dolphins but we chose to swim with Sea Lions FANTASTIC. The food at all the restaurants on the ship was out of this world. The staff made a real fuss of us knowing it was our honeymoon. Contrary to what you may be thinking about a Disney cruise being pull of kids it wasnt. They even have an adult only swimming pool with hot tubs and the spa next door. Perfect.

We also had a few days road trip down to the keys to see a different side of Florida. Bit of a drive but great views along the way. Husband got a Mustang convertable so was very happy.

We are not very beachy people so 1 day was enough for us but you could combine an Orlando holiday with a few days on the coast maybe Miami/Clearwater/Fort Myers. We didnt do everything we wanted to do in our honeymoon so will be going back soon to finish it off!!

Good luck with the wedding and enjoy whatever honeymoon you end up choosing

Hi, we had a very un-relaxing honeymoon, and loved every second of it. WE did a monster West Coast USA road trip, starting in San Francisco, up to Napa valley, Carmel on Pacific Coast Highway, Yosemite National park, Death Valley, Vegas and the Canyon, and ended in LA.

We did it over 15 nights, and there really was something for everyone along the way. For 10 nights you could do a shorter version, maybe leave out Death Valley and Vegas, and stick to the coast.

Wherever you end up have a fantastic time.

We went to Hong Kong for three nights, four nights in Bangkok and seven nights in Koh Samui in August 2010 for £3.5k.

Weather was good for the most part. There is either plenty to do in Koh Samui, or nothing at all but laze about, depending on where you go. We went to Bo Phut. Chaweng is the lively bit. Nathon has got a beach to die for. There are boat trips (Ang Thon National Park), you can island hop (Koh Pangan is close by), there are trips around the island, although you can hire a jeep or scooter cheaply and suit yourself. It poured down one night, this is to be expected in a tropical climate. Not sure about dolphin trips, I am sure you could find something though. We stayed in a garden villa. Eating out is v cheap - £6 for a decent meal and drink for 2. I really loved it and would go again. You could probably island hop for that sort of money. Avoid the western side during our summer as it's their rainy season.

You need to fly to Bangkok and get a smaller plane to the islands. Not for anyone who is a nervous flyer to be honest! I'm not nervous at all but I wasn't best pleased at being presented with a plane that had Indiana Jones style propellers.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o
