CAB section

The new splash page on the CAB section (which is a good idea) however I have to view it to enter the section, then view it to enter a thread and then also view it if the thread is more than one page long when moving to the next page etc. I'm using an android advice if it helps and don't have any issues with any other sections within the site with cookies etc.

Not sure what "splash page" means but i'm not a fan of having to tick boxes before I can view sections.
    I don't know if it's a legal requirement but it's annoying.

I think it's to help get the section back to what it's aimed at helping with as pretty much any issue at all is being posted in there at the minute most of the issues don't require CAB help at all. Hopefully some will read and not post in the section and look for the right sections to post. If it's like that in CAB offices I'm amazed they actually get to help genuine situations there literally wouldn't be enough hours in the day.

It makes perfect sense how it's been set up and i have no issues with reading a small section and ticking a box to enter. Its just you shouldn't need to reconfirm after every page refresh or change of thread just on entry into the section.

We are able to replicate the problem as described, but only if the browser is configured to block cookies.

When you accept the agreement we need to be able to drop a cookie, a tiny data file, on your machine to record the fact that you've agreed. This is for your convenience. If we can't drop the cookie we have no record that you've accepted the agreement and the splash page will keep appearing.

Please ensure that your browser, anti-virus software, and anti-malware software are configured to allow us to drop cookies. And not delete them. Thank you :).

My browser isn't set up to block cookies and never has been. Please see the attached screengrab. My cookie settings isn't the issue and was the first thing I checked before posting.

  • I see. Then I apologise I am unable to replicate this problem. I will keep trying.

I have this issue too! One small difference is that I click the thread in a new tab, it makes me tick the box, agree, submit, then reloads the confirmation page again. I have to do it twice every time I want to view a thread there. I've stopped bothering, which I guess is one way to stop errant posting, or replies!
Again as others, If I then want to view the next page, I have to do confirmation twice.

Desktop PC, firefox, cookies are perfectly fine, and it's been only the last couple of weeks this happened. I have changed nothing before it started, and since the section was created, It had worked perfectly fine upto now.

Well it seems to be fixed for me now. I no longer get the page up at all.
  • Hi

Yes, Ian's spent quite some time looking into this and was able to sort it earlier today :)
