    How about a miniature Schnauzer?

They have great characters, easy to train, very loving, can take as much or as little exercise as you want, don't moult.

The only down side is they do need a bit of grooming each day.

  • Border Terrier, they are the bee's knees. I had an Irish Wolfhound and then a Border Terrier. She is the funniest most charasmatic bundle of love who is quite happy to lie like a baby in my arms or sit beside me all evening on the sofa. She is 12 now and still as nutty as puppy dog.
:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:

I agree. Mine can be a feisty little thing, but he loves a cuddle.

The very first dog I had a lot to do with was a miniature pincher. She was really, REALLY tiney.. my neighbours dog, looked like that but tineyyyyyyyyyyyyy

My next "lots of contact" dog was a dashhound - loved that dog to bits (another neighbour's dog)

At home we had a boxer...

Family - various mixed breed dogs - all great....

My proper REAL OWN dog was a GS though..... LOve them and ... if I was to go a size smaller - would be a boxer I guess...As rotties is similar size to GS so if I had to compromise on GS - a boxer ;)

I know a wolfhound breeder who recommended these to an aging former wolfhound owner too, so you are not the only one! I often think hounds abd terriers have a natural affinity so makes sense that owners of one might adjust to the other.

Aw... look at her cute little ears! My Westie boy is 7 months now, they grow sooooo quick... make the most of the puppy stage;)

I think that the owner and how the dog is treated makes their personality. My Westie has a very similar personality to my old Dobermann...

We 'downsized" from GSDs - weve always had them and one staffie/lab x.
When our last GSD went to the big park in the sky we said we wouldn't have another dog, and then got landed with a rescue patterdale terrier. I wouldn't be without her now, and she can fit in the car, be taken to other peoples houses, doesn't cost much to feed, loves cuddles, and best of all, everyone wants to look after her - no problems if we go away!

A mongrel from a rescue centre.

We love our Stella to bits, and she is a small mongrel and gives us oodles of love. We couldn't imagine life without her.
That's my mutt in the picture above.
