Roaming Charge Refund Success!
Hi all,
Recently got back from a holiday to Turkey to be to be greeted with a phone bill from Virgin mobile of £70 (it is normally £30). I have been abroad before using my phone and have become accustomed to buying a 'data pass' for a set amount of data at a set price before I can use any Internet based services on my phone, and so assumed this procedure would be the same in Turkey. Having arrived at the airport in Turkey, I received a text message from the local network provider informing me of the extortionate charges of using my phone in Turkey, and so I almost immediately turned my data roaming off. Apparently however, in the 1.5 - 2 minutes that my phone was turned on with data roaming active, I ran up almost £20 worth of data charges (!!!) which I found unbelievably excessive.
I rung a customer service agent but was told it was essentially my fault for not turning off data roaming before I left the UK (again !!). I was offered £10 off my bill but was unhappy with paying any of the charges for data roaming, considering I had little chance to avoid them before I was charged almost £20.
Emailed the Virgin Media chief executive email, and was refunded all additional charges from my bill, incl charges for texts I sent whilst away! :j
