I haven't taken a car abroad since the 90's so maybe I'm out of date but if the beam diverters are simply opaque triangular stick-on bits then experiment with masking tape, aiming to black out the raised bit of beam that illuminates the left hand road edge.

Provided you have normal halogen bulbs, and not HID:
    1. use only the round piece of the adaptor (cut or tear along the pre-cut line)
    2. locate the "dimple" or "mark" in headlamp glass - right in front of the light bulb there should be a mark/cross which indicates the bulb position relative to the front glass. Use this mark to position the stickers.

    3. for your particular car the fitting instructions diagram (23) shows the stickers to be placed slightly below and to the left of the mark/bulb

Similar to this, but use diagram 23

When you need to remove the stickers just take them off and then remove any glue residue with a cloth and warm water (it is a water based glue) - don't use any white spirits or harsh detergents, they can damage the headlight lens.

Thanks for the good info ! this makes a lot of sense ! both me and my m8 thought you had to use the whole attachment when using the diverter ! Doh !!

  • Not seen an English car with deam deflectors fitted in France for years! I've certainly never bothered since my first trip to le mans in 2006. Never had any trouble, but as said above, just use some masking tape. Sod paying halfords or P&O god knows how much for a bit of sticky stuff for your headlights!

If you buy the converters (which is a good idea, given the diligence of French police towards UK motorists), then they contain full instructions for most cars. You could also try looking in the owners handbook.

Odd, because I have seen quite a few, including mine.

However, I have never, ever, seen a foreign car or lorry in the UK with any kind of beam deflector fitted.

Double check your owners manual to ensure you cannot manually adjust beam angle, in which case you won't need deflectors. My car has a lever/switch that you manually flick over each headlight to be LHD or RHD set up

Deflectors are not a legal requirement, merely that you must not dazzle oncoming drivers

Assume you are aware of the numerous other legal requirements for driving in france (high viz vest for driver within the driver reach, sat nav active speed traps must be switched off, one NF approved disposable breathalyser (although no fines until 1/11 for this))

If its got HIDs you just flick the lever over. Standard lights dont have that option.
