Agreed. People post things on this site which they know absolutely nothing about and it ends up alarming the OP. If you don't know the answer to something, don't bloody well post.
The roof of any car is weak. It's only sheet steel. All of the strength if the roof is in the pillars, which is why cars that have to have their roof cut off to free accident victims are automatic right offs.
Panoramic glass roofs are made from laminate glass which will crack, but will not shatter, just the same as the windscreen.
Additionally all new cars have to comply with the Road Vehicle (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 w hitch wouldn't allow new cars on the road unless they were safe.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
What is the EURO N-CAP rating of the car?
I think it's just the idea of glass and speed that scares me. Steel might crumple just that little bit more and give you more impact absorbtion than a brittle material like glass?
Plus, all that glass is going to be HEAVY. I prefer to have my centre of gravity nice and low so that the vehicle handles better and is safer.
Just promise us, whatever you do don't compromise on your safety. The car will be nice and safe I'm sure but make sure it gets regularly serviced and never skimp too much on cheap tyres.0 -

That was the reason Land Rover fitted an aluminium roof panel to the Evoque. Unfortunately, the majority of customers choose the heavy glass panoramic roof option.
I'm 99% sure that the glass roof panels used in most, if not all, cars are toughened and not laminated, just like the other windows.0 -
