"This summer, Britain's teenagers will be able to stop badgering their parents to pay off their mobile phone bills, with the launch of a new service that offers free calls and texts provided users are willing to receive adverts on their phones.
Blyk, a start-up run by the former president of the Finnish mobile firm Nokia, will today announce it has signed deals with advertisers including Coca-Cola, L'Oréal and Buena Vista, part of the Disney media empire, as it works up to a summer launch in the UK.

Blyk, which is aiming for the 16- to 24-year-old market, is also understood to be close to a deal with mobile phone operator Orange to run the service over its network. Orange refused to comment, saying only that it was always on the lookout for partners."

  • Nokia's former president is targeting the lucrative teenage mobile market with Blyk, the world's first service to offer "free" texts and calls in exchange for sending advertising directly to users' phones.

The pan-European service, which launched in the UK today, is offering 16-24 year olds 217 texts and 43 minutes of calls every month – and no contract to sign. Blyk also plans to enter the market in France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

Certainly interesting. I've also noticed on their site "Browsing the Blyk mobile portal: Free" Wonder what that will be like. Will they have the footy scores?
  • Free calls and texts in exchange for 6 push ads a day.

    Blyk site:

Runs through the Orange network and you must have a MMS enabled handset.

The service is by invite only so probably time to set up an invite request thread!

SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
    1. Does anyone have any good ideas for limiting phone bills for teenagers? Having been stung for £100+ one or two months on a contract we changed to T-Mobile U-fix but gives very limited calls / txts for the money. Are there any good ways or limiting the damage other than PAYG? :money:
    Thanks

  • :T If the cost of your or your childrens credit is killing you, there is a new provider called BLYK that offers monthly allowances of free calls+texts to 16-21's for FREE. NO CATCH. You have to sign up online via an invite code, and have a phone that accepts pictures messages and is open to all networks. There is not contract so you are not tied into them. You can either change your existing SIM to the Blyk network or they will send you a separate one FREE.

In exchange for this ,they send adverts of items young people may be interested in, and no you are not swamped with adverts either, so well worth it. go to www.blyk.co.uk for full details.

    Happy FREE calls and texts.
