Hair spray is very good at removing marker pen. I removed some from the front of a t-shirt I had, but I did catch it before it dried.

Another idea that may fade it is to soak overnight in water with 2 tablespoons of borax added.

    Hope you can save it

hope it works..but usually permanent means permanent sadly. Is it in a place where maybe you could sew an applique on or similar?
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

There are some suggestions in various bits of the Cleaning section of the MEGA Index (in our Indexed Collections sticky) that may be of help.

Help!!!!! We're moving this weekend and I've just accidentally drawn a great big line of black permanent marker on the wall in the kitchen. Its gloss. Tried wiping it off with a jcloth but its stuck fast.

Anyone with any quick handy tips to get it off, that doesn't involve repainting the whole wall!!

Hi, no ideas, but hate to see a tread go unanswered. Try this thread - some ideas:

    Crayon on the walls

Alternatively, try the Mega Index (it's in the tool bar at the top of the page) - lots of tips on cleaning items, and removing *substances*

Hmm not sure about permanenet marker but I use a spongy thing I got from Lakeland (free gift) and it takes most stuff off most things. It looks like a Flash Eraser so it is probably the same. I would actually part with cash for one now having used it. It has taken permanent marker off my worktops.

what we do in school if permanent marker is used on the whiteboards is to go over wi with a whiteboard marker and then it rubs off.

you can also try WD40. (AMAZING STUFF)
not sure if this will work witg gloss though.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

Yay, OH got home and managed to get it off with lighter fluid!! Taken a bit of paint off but barely noticeable.

Thanks for all the tips, wish I'd seen the WD40 one before OH got to it as that probably wouldn't have taken any paint off.

The other day, while rebuilding an ikea sideboard (with a few sizing modifications) I got some black permanent marker on my bronze carpet.

Silly, I know, but it was the back end of a long hard day... honest :)

Since I had a red marker I thought I'd have a go at dabbing the black with red (to try and get close to "bronze") and, finally switching my brain on, I had a spray bottle of stardrops handy hoping to smudge the colours together and pehaps at least remove some of the marker to get even closer.

To my surprise - a spray of stardrops (applied immediately after going over the black with the red) and a light scrub with an old toothbrush removed it ALL.

So it seems that if you go over a permanent marker spot or line a second time and then hit it with a cleaner while the second application is still wet - you stand a good chance of removing all of it.

    HTH

Do let us know if you try this, maybe I just got lucky, but it would be nice to know if this is an effctive solution to what is a regular request for help here on Old Style.

When you say spray the stardrops, I'm assuming it's diluted?
