you say that your pet doesnt like you using them - I think its to do with the energy it generates (I sometimes feel it through the rods - like a 'vibration' and that is a good sign that you are in tune with the rods).
so, best to put the dog in another room or outside when you practice indoors with the rods.
or leave the dog indoors and practice outdoors.
Keep practicing OP and have faith in the rods and your ability.

Many thanks for such a positive reaction. I too think it is to do with the energy as she was displaying a similar response, but much less, last night during the lightening when we had a storm last night. Generally she is a very laid back dog though.

I also use a pendulum and am much more practiced with that. She doesnt worry about that. Dowsing is a truly amazing process and I will keep going and trying to hone my skills.

Great for finding water pipes on your property and drains (obviously need to have water in them). Couple of bent welding rods does the trick.

Maybe the dogs getting excited 'cos she thinks you're playing games, and she's waiting for you to throw the 'sticks' you're carrying.

Dogs do sense these things that we're not aware of, i've read stories where dog owners have been warned by their pets when they have medical problems, they can smell a cancer. So it must be second nature to them to be able to trace water.

can I just add that the water company my OH works for supplies the dowsing rods? really nice copper ones! would they do that if dowsing didnt work?

i can confirm that dowsing within the water and electrical companies are common place. ive used dowsing in my last job (water).

you can use a correlator (a sounding device attached to two points of one strech of water main) but unless you knpow the exact size of the main and to the nearest mm of the lengh to the two points (correlator devices) then it can throw you 2-3 meters away from the "noise" on the main. use of dowsing rod would help when you narrowed the main down to the apporaxame location of leak then dowse the rest, ive often found, that what is on the DMA sheet is not where the main is the main could flow on the right hand side of the street but the sheet says left.

aften the dogs and even cats would go a bit scatty or doolally when they are looking at you through gates when your neer them doing it.

what the dowsing rods wont do for you is find plastic water pipe now most commonly used thanks to likes of electric and gas co's using them. yellow gas red electric blue for water!.

and the most affective way of finding the leak is with a listening stick and your ears.
