I regularly use 15W40 oil where the car engine gets older and starts burning oil as it cuts down oil consumption. I've even used 20W50 to good advantage in an old Rover that was drinking the newer thin stuff (10W40); kept it going for a further five years use with no major problems.0

Could spray the fence with it and general spot oiling of things.
Vauxhalls at least 12 years run 5w or 10w/30w. I run 0w/30w as its thinner and flows quicker when cold but retains the thicker 30w when warm. Done same in VAG 0w/30w.
Another point i found by using slightly thicker oil than recommended was a drop in fuel consumption and drop in power i would put at 10%.0 -
I use 15/40 in my 2003 corsa 1.2eco, have done for years, and it has always been a heavy oil user since I bought it, so it was nothing that I did. Certainly no deterioration.
The book says 10/30 5/30 or 0/30 :rotfl: no chance! Why pay more?
I use a mix of shell 15/40 (£15 for 5 litres) for an oil change...whenever I feel like it but usually once a year.
Then I top up with supermarket 15/40 £5.60 for 5 litres the amount of toping up I do means more regular oil changes are not neccessary.0 -

Your car doesn't sound like a diesel now does it? the corsa needs the thinner oil and regular because they eat the camchain otherwise.
you should not be able to hear the engine at idle from inside the car, if you can then you need a new camchain!0
