In around 2006 bought some 5 litre bottles of 15W40 engine oil which was on special offer. It was for a '96 mondeo 1.8TD.

I still have a couple of unopened bottles in the basement. WHat can i use it for now? As far as i know modern cars do not take 15W40 grade.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    Some cars do take 15/40

Either keep it or give it to someone that wants 15/40.

It was the wrong spec for your mondeo anyway. 10/40 for the 1.8TD.

It would have been thicker when cold.

15w40 suits old vauxhalls and old lawnmowers, suitable for any old banger that uses more oil than petrol though

15/40 oil always good for older cars that burn/leak oil.

Not the end of the world to use it up in cars that are supposed to take 10/40 oil as top-up oil. 20% 15/40 for a few months at a time isn't going to kill it.

would your feet not slip off the pedals though
  • I "think" my Astra takes 15W40 and it's not that old, not the most recent model, the one before that. And there's plenty of those on the road, so it might be common enough!
