chimney liner questions - any sweeps about???

Hi Guys,

I have a multi-fuel stove running 24/7, burning smokeless eggs and seasoned wood - I'm looking for a new chimney sweep locally as the guys I used to use came from fife to do the HA houses and I haven't seen them for a while - local HA houses have mostly gone over to electric heating.

Anyway, am looking for a local sweep - have a couple of numbers to ring - but can I ask do all sweeps do smoke testing??? I have a flexible liner, about 8 years old, but I guess it's having a hard life :) - does anyone know how you tell whether a liner is deteriorating? I understand a smoke test is a good idea - my former sweep used to do one each time he cleaned (2 x year) - but are there any other signs??? Fire burning well as usual.

Thanks, WCS
