At what stage of the process do Eon know you are leaving ?

Once your cooling off period ends, your proposed supplier has the right to register their interest. They do this by sending a data flow to the distributor, who passes on the proposed switch date they were sent plus the industry ID of the proposed supplier. The distributor passes that straight on.

So, the question is, how long will it take your proposed supplier to work the report your request is on.

I think E.On agree with you. This is from the 4 July press release about "Reset" progress "all discounts paid on final bills. All final bills include discounts calculated during that period":T

Perhaps the E.On rep can inform us of the effective date.

Hi jalexa

As you know, we've been feeding comments about our final bill discount policy back for a while now. I'm pleased to say, our policy makers have listened and included this within our Reset programme.

Don't have a date yet as to when this will kick in but it looks as though it'll be sometime during this autumn.

It's a definite, though. Discounts will be given on final bills starting later this year.

I am looking to move away from Eon to another supplier and came across this "no discount on final bill" when speaking to a representative of your company over the phone today.

There were a couple points I made:

1. I asked how to create an "interim bill" just before my planned tranfer date to circumvent this "no discount on final bill" rule. I was told it was not possible but you seem to say different.

2. I think this "no discount on final bill" is a hidden penalty charge. Clearly, I wil have met all my oligations upto the end of the bill period - i.e paid all bills by DD and continued to have duel fuel from Eon.

So what is the justification for not giving the discount on the final bill, apart from "its in the T&C's"? This term seem to be misleading and unfair and I think worth challenging, something I will do when I do get my final bill and dont get my discount.

Hi sujman

Sorry the advice you were given when you called in wasn't clear.

Providing the new supplier hasn't applied for your account, you can use the Real Time Billing option on the website to create a bill. As this won't be the final bill, it will include all the relevant discount.

Also, if you're on a fixed term contract, you'll receive all the discount applicable to this tariff provided you've completed the full term of the agreement before the switch completes. This includes any part that falls within the final bill.

If this is the case, the discount lost will be for charges between the end of the contract and the date the switch goes through.

This came in quite a time ago and is separate from the info I posted above in reply to jalexa.

Hope this helps sujman. Give me a shout if you need any more details.

I spoke for a long time to someone from Eon tonight who was phoning after I complained that they had the cheek to increase my direct debit following the ending of my Saveonline9 contract.

After agreeing not impose the increased direct debit, he said that I could send them a meter reading on the day of my contract ending in order to have a bill at the very end of the saveonline9 contract. I mentioned that the rep has signified on this site that I might not be able to send them a reading if my tranfer to the new company was already in progress. He said that I could definitely get a bill for the period when my contract ends provided I send a reading.
"Just a quick heads up. Once your new supplier applies for the account, the Real Time Billing option won't be available."

Is therea difference between Real time billing and sending a meter reading?

I agree with you that there is no justification of no discount for a final bill once a contract ends. Hopefully my final bill will not be for many days, but I will still challenge it.

Hi pengers

As above in reply to sujman, provided you use the Real Time Billing option before the new supplier applies for the account, you can request a bill. As this won't be your final bill, it will include all the relevant discount.

You do, though, need to select the option to issue a bill. Unless a scheduled bill is due, entering meter readings will only show a balance with the option to request a bill.

It's a good idea to pop on reads and request a bill the day Saveonline 9 ends. This will make sure you receive the maximum benefit of the tariff.

If the transfer is in progress, you won't be able to use the Real Time Billing on the website and will need to call in with readings.

Also, as above to sujman, you'll receive all the discount for this tariff even if part of this falls within the final bill. This is because you will have completed the full term of the contract.

Hope this helps pengers. Let me know if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

My EDF account shows "Registration in Progress" from yesterday, I cannot change my plan on line and have a few missed calls from Eon today so PDQ. ;)

Is there a limit to how often you can request a bill.

Just started my switch
EON saveonline finishes 13 September

If I request a bill in one week to be sure of doing so before the supplier applies for the account then could I ask for another one a week later if no progress has been made?

I'm hoping to have timed this ok and realise the switch is dependant upon the new supplier who are quoting 4-6 weeks for it to take affect.

It is virtually certain that the day after the expiry of the cooling-off period your current supplier will hear of the switch. After that you cannot assume "no progess". Even if there is "no progress" the process has started.

Don't get hung-up on a few days penny saving.

I will just say that this depends on whether they have built an auto trigger to summit it.

Older systems meant seperate pre-registration and switching/registration systems so it took an operator to send it in the other system hence it could be impacted by backlogs/poor management, etc. Cancelling the cooling off period back then meant updating the pre-registration system so that it doesn't push it to a report. If they have used SAP to interlink these processes, it can be very quick however this also means that switch date is based on a design and cannot be variable...which could be a problem for customers in contracts with early termination charges.

So, if it doesn't happen straight away...they won't have built an auto trigger.

• Will add that Im another customer who is switching away from Eon as the saveonline 9 comes to an end 31/8/12.

just wondering if anybody had any luck with the argument that end of contract and final bills do not get discounts??

Surely this is an unfair charge?
