There will be no extra fee from the ATM.
Whilst I don't think 99% of overseas ATMs make a charge (exel's assertion), it's fair to say that some ATMs may charge a fee for cash withdrawals.

I understand it's often charged in the US, although I've no experience of the Far East. Have you?

    From Wikipedia:
There are three ATM networks in Hong Kong: ETC (HSBC and Hang Seng Bank only) JETCO (all remaining banks) and AEON. ATM use is free of charge...

Yes, no charge in Hong Kong. OP isn't going to the USA.

South East Asia is another matter.

Don't bother. If your SAGA card credit limit is high enough, just use the card for cash withdrawals and purchases.

The rate that you will get will be better than the rate that you get for exchanging cash. In addition, as long as you pay the statement balance in full there will no interest to pay. So just 2% off the VISA wholesale exchange rate for ATM withdrawals.

There will be no extra fee from the ATM. exel1966 just made that up.
Whilst I agree that the figure of 99% of machines charging may be a tad high I do know that some will.
In fact even in this country there are machines that charge between £1.50 - £2.75 to use, normally in shops such as SPAR or in pubs and clubs.

Sheesh...we are writing about Hong Kong here. :) No ATM charge for foreign cards.

The ATMs to which you refer are privately run ones here in the UK.

Yes, no charge in Hong Kong.
You cropped your wiki quote, and omitted...

"...except when a card is used outside of its respective home network. When a card is used outside the home network, HKD$15–30 is paid for service charge."

If I understand correctly, the OP's "home network" isn't Hong Kong?

I cropped it because it refers to Domestic cards. In others words it would be like using a Santander card at a Barclays machine in the UK. Remember when they used to charge for that?

But it doesn't affect foreign card use.

    Ok? :)

Nonsense, I rely on personal experience, not word of mouth or Wikipedia. having spent half of my life travelling throughout Europe (east and west), the USA, South America and the Far East I can assure you that the majority of ATM owners will make a charge!!

Best not to take edited quotes from an unreliable source !

Nifty, how many times have you been to HK and used a cash machine ?

Off the top of my head, five HK visits to date. Probably more. You?
I have never been charged by an ATM, in any country and I don't take local cash with me, unless left over from a previous trip.
Five would be a conservative estimate.
