Another mystery plant
Hello!
Can any gardening gurus help me identify this plant? I found it amongst the weeds at the top of my garden and haven't a clue what it is- it smells nice though!

was only yesterday whilst visting folks' for the day, that i saw some near a park. made a mental note to oneself to collect seed on my next visit (is it easy to germinate peeps?)
as it's scent is strongest in the evenings, this will attract moths which is a good thing.

If you try to grow it from seed, it plays hard to get. If you just let it do it's own thing you get loads.0

Mystery solved! I think I'll leave it to do it's thing in my 'wildflower meadow' (otherwise known as a weed patch). Thanks for your help.2009: £328

It's a horrible self-seeding weed in my garden, unlike its more sophisticated cousin shown here : http://www.thompson-morgan.com/flowers/flower-seeds/perennial-and-biennial-seeds/oenothera-lemon-sunset/6831TM, which is more delicate and still seeds around, manageably.
Each to his/her own though.0 -

I've had no trouble germinating it, but my seed came direct from Mother in law's back yard, where it still seeds around in the cobblestones. It could be a case of quick results from fresh seed, which should just be surface sown.
Before I switched to the apricot one, I had the original, very bright yellow from an old lady who lived next door at my first house. That was a glow-in-the-dark shade! It took a while to make the switch, but I finally eradicated the bright variety, which isn't easy to place in a quiet colour scheme.
I think there's a pale lemon one as well; certainly used to be.
The coarser oenothera I inherited here at my Devon house hasn't been allowed to grow & flower for three years, but the seedlings are still coming up, in quantity. For that reason, I wouldn't give up on your seed yet, as it may have gone dormant and maybe a spell of winter weather will trigger it off again.0
