i am after a garden weed burner. Is it better to buy a parasene type one (which only use parasene containers) or is there one that can use the generic type of gas cans like in portable gas stoves?

thanks

The Parasene / gas burners do work, but won't be much good for large areas. In which case you can still buy a flame gun which uses paraffin.

My Mind wanders, if found please return.

did not want to spend that much! i note the parasene canisters are expensive compared to say the gas stove cans.

The long camping gas cylinders seem to fit my parasene burner from Wilkinsons, problem has been the ignition on the burner wore out after a year.

Why would you use a weed burner instead of weed killer? The roots survive and grow back!

I've acquired Weed Wand and it's a waste of space for killing weeds, but pretty good for lighting bonfires or the barbie.

It runs on any brand of gas.

good question. our blocked driveway is overun with horse weed - a !!!!!! to kill and takes ages to pull out manually. i was thinking to burn the top to weaken the stalks then when cool to apply some weed killer. (weed killer does not really work well on horse weed).

I really hope you don't mean mare's tail, because if you do, it'll take more than a weed wand to shift that!

Have you got an internet ID for what it is?

Most weedkillers available now work by absorption through a plant's leaves, so burning them off would not assist either. The old sodium chorate solution is no longer available.

Burners are really good at getting rid of weed seedlings. If you catch them before big roots are put down, the whole plant will die. One of those jobs to do regularly!

If you have weeds with serious root systems, treating with a systemic weedkiller is really the only way to go.

Have a look in Aldi. They may still have some of their own branded burners with a gas can for about £8. Look at the sticker on the wand and it is parasene, excactly the same item that the garden centres sell for £20 -£30 without gas !
