Scart & HD

I've got a video sender that just uses scart, can you use a scart to send HD TV signals?

Thanks.

simple answer is no, scart can not be used for hd
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

That's what I thought but on one of my TV's there is no scart socket but there is a scart adaptor socket so I can still use my video sender with that TV using this scart adapter:

and it appears that the picture is in HD compared to the SD channel e.g. Sky News HD on Ch501 vus Sky News SD on Ch517

However my other TV has a scart socket so I can plug the scart on the video sender directly into the TV and picture isn't in HD or is markedly less clear as far as definition is concerned when viewing e.g. Sky News HD or BBC 1 HD vs BBC 1 SD. Both TVs are the same brand as well.

I'd dearly love to know how on earth you are converting an analogue signal to digital.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

You'll need to run a hdmi to the other tv and use a hdmi splitter to view hd on both tvs. I did this to watch sky hd in the bedroom from one box and it works great. You'll also need a coax for the magic eye if you want to turn over from the bedroom

    Odd isn't it :)

But the picture on the TV that uses that adapter definitely has a far better defined picture (from a HD channel) compared to the TV where you just plug the sender into it via the scart.
  • - not without an 'upscaler' you can't
    - goes in as 21 pin weak compressed analog signal with sound and vision
    - and out as an uncompressed digital signal which means better quality, higher contrast, and a sharper image
    - upscalers come in different types / 720 / 1080p / both / etc
    - that pic / cable certainly doesn't have an upscaler built into it

Maybe the TV that displays the better quality picture (via the scart adapter) has a built in upscaler.

Probably a built-in upscaler, or a better one than the source TV. It's not a true HD signal, so all the extra HD-ness is the result of the upscaler making guesses about what to put where and sharpeining the image a bit :-)

    - maybe it does .. .. which TV will give HD even @ 720 from a Scart input ?
    - you have two identical branded TV's, which one is able to do this Paul Daniels conversion ?
    - unless an upscaler is involved in changing analogue to digital its voodoo & alchemy mate

    - which / what TV ?

    HiYa paddyrg.

I don't think its either native or upscaled HD whether TV based or otherwise. If however schrodie had said in #3 hey look at this cable - when I plug it in my TV it makes a much better picture, I would agree with schrodie that not only is it possible but probable.

But the cause [the Paul Daniels effect] is not some voodoo conversion from analogue to digital but merely the presets on the TV. If the Contrast / Colours / Brightness / scaling / etc / settings for HDMi are totally different than a Scart setting that would explain everything. Put conversely if schrodie wrote down all the settings for HDMi / plugged in the Scart lead / and changed the Scart default settings to those for HDMi s/he would reproduce the same exciting visual outcomes, not snake oil cables - just presets.
