Okay guys, being experienced freecyclers I thought I'd ask your advice. I need to post a wanted on my freecycle group for suitcases (Moving house in 2 weeks and realised the boxes I packed in where left in the spare room and have grown mould - lovely eh!).

Do you think I'm going to get many rude messages from people if I ask nicely to lend or be given some old suitcases? Because if that's likely I'll leave it a few days until I'm in a cheerier mood because I'll explode with anger at the moment! Also what's the most polite way to post a wanted, I've only ever posted offers and it's got me a bit nervous!

Also I have a binliner full of kids stuff, do you think that's likely to be snapped up on freecycle by just one person? I'm running out of room here!!!

On one of my freecycle groups, we have been stopped from posting asking for a loan of something, which I think is a shame. We do have a freecycle cafe on the same group, where you are allowed to ask to borrow. Never seen a ad on my other groups asking to borrow something, so I guess those posts may be blocked.
Just try, whats the worst that can happen?

How about asking for boxes for moving house, I've seen quite a few of those?

Would you prefer them to post 4 seperate wanted ads? or maybe you object to them asking for expensive things like a greenhouse, which we have given away all the time on our local group?

:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm actually not that far from luton - I think we have buses that go there from here - if only I could figure out our buses!

That's a good plan, I don't know how/why I amass so much childrens stuff, not having kids and all, but I've got about 10 video's, dressing up clothes, and brand new kids books and I can't carry them to the charity shop and can't bear to waste them! I'll list everything down in the one message and hope that someone will want everything (I keep tripping over the stuff, it's getting a tad painful!).

Just bear in mind, if you want get rid of everything in one load, the chances are high of someone going for it to sell on, car booters etc. You can always ask them when you offer it, but of course you might not always get told the truth. :D

I like seeing really useful 'offereds' - clothes etc that kids have outgrown that will really be of use to someone else, bric a bric that hopefully is being used to sell to raise funds for a good cause, handy bits and pieces that perhaps don't have much monetary value but are just what someone is looking for...
Going for tea - will now get off my soapbox :D

I agree, my favourite offers, not merely because I like collecting junk that no-one else wants :D I've got some really useful stuff that no-one else would want, of no value really.
However I do have a 17" crt monitor that no-one wants, what do I do with it? It works, but I have to landfill it.......... I noticed on ebay they aren't even selling for a penny!

I think a lot of folk are fussy - a 17" crt monitor simply won't do for them cuz they desperately 'need' flat screen/wide screen/bigger monitors (I've seen plenty of wanted posts for those on my groups). I'm sitting typing this on an old desktop pc which has a 17" crt monitor, coincidentally - and it suits me fine! Who know, it might have museum value one day :rotfl:

    Pam
PS Edited to add - when the tube blows, no doubt it will end up in landfill since, as you say, no-one wants them any more

All seems totally OK to me, polite, which counts for a lot to me. Can't see any wants over the top..... what is it you object to?

re the suitcases, ask you never know and just delete any rude replies.

re the crt monitor, ask all local charities, we had two to get rid of, salvation army were very grateful for them.

re the wanteds - cheeky beggars
