78 messages on my local Freecycle today, 8 of them offered. The moderators recently implented "Wanted Wednesdays" ie you only post wanteds on wednesdays (simple no?) and yet every day for the last week at least a third of the posts have been wanted ads
Nothing quite as ridiculous as I've seen on this thread though
I have offered on Freecycle twice only told be told things were being picked up, have people not bother showing each time. I have received one thing from Freecycle (the only thing I tried for) and was polite during, and had a good conversation with the fella before and afterwards.
I can't understand why people are so rude when they're being done a favour...0 -
I have a big problem with what appear to be semi professionals on freecycle, snapping up almost everything that is offered with no items offered up by them.
On the group near me a reasonably worded message pointing out the disparity between the offers and wanted messages posted by one user got a less than sympathetic response from the mod.
I have placed some items on there which have been snapped by what I hope are genuine people who will use the items but I am not so sure.
I have seen a few wanteds for caravans, a full set of of furniture and appliances (even listing makes and models in some cases), Digital SLR and digital cameras, PC's, laptops, MP3 players etc etc. Whilst the original philosophy is great once again the people who think everything should be given to them on a plate without effort are spoiling the great idea.
A certain character in one of my groups was forever posting 'thanks for x' in the group. I counted up that in one month alone he/she had collected no less that 18 items, and those included several pieces of furniture, electrical equipment (ranging from kettles (yes, more than one kettle) to microwave combi ovens. I was sorely tempted to ask him/her how he/she did it, but wrote to the Mods instead to point it out. They wrote back and said it was up to the people offering goods to give them to whom they wanted, but agreed it sounded excessive. Funnily enough that person hasn't posted since. Maybe they got enough for their Ebay shop or finished furnishing their house - who knows
I like seeing really useful 'offereds' - clothes etc that kids have outgrown that will really be of use to someone else, bric a bric that hopefully is being used to sell to raise funds for a good cause, handy bits and pieces that perhaps don't have much monetary value but are just what someone is looking for...
Going for tea - will now get off my soapbox

I love your name, it would also suit a friend of ours.
I've been waiting a week for some muppet to let me know when he can pick up some tools that I have offered to him, so not quite a no show but bloody annoying. They have posted 1 offer and 4 wanteds in the mean time so I know they have been on line.
Freecycling should make the giver feel happy that their item has gone to a good home and the receiver should be grateful for what they have gained.0 -

Also I have a binliner full of kids stuff, do you think that's likely to be snapped up on freecycle by just one person? I'm running out of room here!!!
If you live near Luton I've got 3 different sets you could chose from, I'm not kidding.
You could always split the kids stuff up if you get more than 1 request.0 -

:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm actually not that far from luton - I think we have buses that go there from here - if only I could figure out our buses!
That's a good plan, I don't know how/why I amass so much childrens stuff, not having kids and all, but I've got about 10 video's, dressing up clothes, and brand new kids books and I can't carry them to the charity shop and can't bear to waste them! I'll list everything down in the one message and hope that someone will want everything (I keep tripping over the stuff, it's getting a tad painful!).The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Wanted - books
We are collecting books for our Book Fair to be held to raise funds
for the purchase of Microchip Scanners for independent animal rescuers.
On Wednesday afternoon I shall be collecting some books in the xxxx
area. If anyone has any books I can relieve them of, please get in touch
asap.
Thankyou
Pam
Just a follow up - this lady called as arranged to pick up all the old paperbacks I'd been planning to give to Charity. What a lovely lady and so appreciative. She gave me a trolley token to put on my keyring with their website details on as a little thankyou. Good luck with the book sale Sue - hope you raise lots of money.
This sort of thing really puts my faith back in Freecycle :T

Hi has anyone got a fish tank at least 4ft -6ft that they no longer need.I would prefer on with its own cabinet if possible.if you can help I would be very grateful.Best wishes and thank you.nice manners, but an expensive item to request,.................
There you go again. NOT EXPENSIVE !
I bought a 5 ft tank (2.5 ft high by 2ft deep - that's 150 gallons) for only £10 a few months ago out of the classifieds. The seller apparently had advertised it 3 times before I took it. He said the adverts had cost him £12 !
Since then I've had two 4ft tanks with stands and hoods and heaters and lights and pumps and filters and gravel and bogwood off Freecycle that were offered by 2 diffferent people. There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

I am going to stop now! Joined my local freecycle group after seeing this thread, very good for getting rid of stuff I couldn't be bothered to sell on ebay and I picked up a portable tv which was great but got tired of people saying they wanted and not picking up or being very abrupt as if they were doing me a favour taking away a brand new wireless router..
Gone on to daily digest now, but alot of wanted eg dvd players and laptops for students finishing coursework seem a bit suss?
Never mind, I have loved reading this thread, mase me laugh out loud sometimes!
Welcome aboard!

Do you think I'm going to get many rude messages from people if I ask nicely to lend or be given some old suitcases? Because if that's likely I'll leave it a few days until I'm in a cheerier mood because I'll explode with anger at the moment! Also what's the most polite way to post a wanted, I've only ever posted offers and it's got me a bit nervous!

Did reply earlier but the post 'timed out' and never showed up! Anyway, Bones said pretty much what I'd said. I've seen a few posts from people advertising to see if they could borrow an item e.g. a trailer, to move some stuff. Judging from the replies of thanks on the board, it all worked out well.

Its such a good idea, its a pity some people take the mick...I offered a sky box recently as well as some other un related stuff..
One person emailed for one thing, then saw the rest and emailed again and said while I am at it I will take the rest at 7pm
I decided no you won't missy:rotfl:0
