is this normal? never had this asked before
it isn't in the options when i click pay on ebay - only lets me pay the full amount
i will be able to collect next week but she wants a deposit to make sure i'll by... so is this safe and normal practice for ebay and paypal? and if so, how do i leave her deposit?
thank you

just guessing here but the only way I know would be to get their email for paypal and pay though paypal not ebay but then you would be outside of ebay so less help if it were to go wrong and against the rules too I think.
Up to you if you trust them, you could always pay it all now through ebay, as then you will have good protection, paying cash on pickup leaves you with next to no protection.0 -
If the auction terms do not state a deposit is required then don't pay it , just tell seller you will be along with cash as arranged on xx date.
If seller doesn't like that she will have to either cancel the sale and lose the FVFs and listing fees or just wait for you and the cash as arranged.
I assume she isn't taking PayPal for a motorbike :eek:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. though i have never paid one
Im not buying a pig in a poke, when it comes to vehicles0 -
Be careful if you do decide to pay a deposit via paypal.
You have no buyer protection what-so-ever as 'deposits' are counted as intangible items and are not covered.
If you get there with the balance in cash and it's a pile of junk and you don't hand over the cash, you will lose any paypal dispute you open to get your deposit back.

Reply back it will only let you pay the full amount. You were going to then found out they would be liable for fees on the full amount.
Do they want to pay fees on the full amount, Or should i just bring cash as i intended to?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
thanks everyone. it wasn't an option in ebays payment for a deposit so i messaged the seller and we agreed to just pay it all with paypal0

No you must not pay for the bike with paypal you won't have buyer protection, it is not valid for vehicles....I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -

what does that mean?i 've already paid..0 -

It means that if you turn up and the seller refuses to let you have the bike, or you look at it and it's a heap of **** and the seller won't give your money back, you won't be able to raise a paypal dispute.
If this does turn out to be the case, you might be able to reclaim the money by doing a credit or debit card chargeback provided that your card issuer will do this.0
