  • I have booked via Delta on line in the US for a ticket originating in the UK, paid in dollars with my UK card and flown with an e ticket without any problems. I have also had tickets booked in the US by another party and flown again on e tickets without any problem.

    Basically because Americans are deep down pretty paranoid. I was in Maryland last year and bought an AmTrack ticket at the airport for the two of us to DC. The clerk used only my passport (Canada) for both tickets. When we were leaving DC, I went to the counter for two tickets. She refused to sell me two without seeing the other half's ID. Well being a true man he'd left his passport in the hotel safe. He only had his police badge and warrant card with him. She had a hissy fit and after much questioning sold the second ticket. I mean !!!!!!, it was an RCMP set and he could have been working at our Embassy there but she still wanted a passport.

    Can't comment on the USA travel agent, but you will struggle to get an American credit card unless you've got American credit history or an SSN. You may be able to get a dollar-based credit card from some UK banks though - possibly HSBC?
