Thinking of going New York next year

With a friend, thinking of going for about 3 days as I know its expensive!

Really just going for sight seeing / shopping

Basically I want to know how much we are looking at, We dont want to stay in an expensive hotel.

So really if you could post up any sites for hotels / flights that really woud be great

Hard to say exactly since you give no info on where you'll be flying from and when exactly you're looking to go (February will be much cheaper than July). However, a very rough estimate: £400-500 per person for the flights and £100 per night for a cheapish centrally located hotel room. Obviously there's a cheaper accomodation available if you really don't care about the standard.
  • i have been to new york a few times, used booking.com and found them to be the cheapest and most reliable, some sites will look cheaper but some price with and without the tax 14.75% and a daily per person charge of about $7
  • I like using https://www.lowcostholidays.com , as people on here may have noticed!!! :D

The great thing about them is you can get your flights, hotel, insurance and transfers all from one place, without the usual feeling of being ripped off.

I know it's none of my business, but that seems a rather long way to go just for 3 days...

I can't give an indication of accommodation costs as I stayed in hostels, but I was there for over a week and could easily have stayed much longer! Not to mention the major cities within a $10 coach fare that are worth a visit!

Dont go for 3 nights. Remember about 3/4 of the first day is just getting there.

Do 4 as a minimum. The main cost is the flight so its better value to go for 4-6 days than 3.

    Ive normally used Expedia.

I live in the south of Enlgand and I wouldn't even go to Scotlnd for 3 days. Is there no way you could do a week? 3 days is usually only 2 nights, I think it's crazy to spend that amount for that short time.

Not if you catch an early flight. Leave London at 8am means you are in NYC for 10am, and potentially in your hotel and out and about by noon.

I see it the other way round - NYC is so close that it makes for a perfect long weekend.

I'm doing a long weekend there in November.
