Corsa Breeze......window problem

My lovely new (to me!) 1997 Corsa Breeze has a faulty driver's side window. It falls out of the frame when I try to wind it up and although I can push it back into place, I have to park in some dodgy places at work and I'm worried that it may fall out completely sooner or later.

I've been told by my garage that the window winding unit has plastic clips, one of which has probably snapped, but they cannot be replaced individually, the whole unit has to be replaced. They said to get one from a breakers yard and they will fix it for me but is it a job that I could do myself with the usual household tools (and a willing hubby to help)?

I've got a sunroof but it's so hot here at the moment, I could really do with a usable window. I'm getting a bit tired of leaning over to open the passenger window all the time!

The whole unit is called a window regulator. Unfortunately in any car its quite fiddly due to lack of space in door but can be done DIY with a bit of patience. Best of luck.

the window would only tilt if part of the window support rail had been left out due to bad workmanship because they had the door card off
there was a clip that held it in at its upper point but they rusted with age
cant help you really but you need that piece of metal that the window runs in lower than the door frame

euro car parts still sell these i think, easy to do, easy to drop and smash the glass, easy to cut your fingers and before you even get to all that it is easy to brake the plastic studs that hold the door card in place.

The window regulator is riveted to the door and not bolted or screwed so unless you got a decent drill and a rivet gun and some rivets you wont be able to DIY . A long shot but take the door trim off and make sure the glass itself is still attached to the regulator but sounds to me as if you need a new regulator or it maybe that someones done it before and one rivet has broke letting the regulator have a mind of its own when you operate it
End of the day its a easy fix no matter.

the whole thing is bolted on, well unless you can show me one that is riveted?

Thanks for all replies, it does look like a bit of a fiddly job. I'm going to see if I can get the part from the local breakers and I'll probably get the garage to fit it for me.

They reckon £30-40 to fit....does that sound fair?

Ive replaced many and repaired alot of these doors in my job working in a car accident repair bodyshop and all the ones ive ever done are riveted as are all vauxhalls and yes £30 to £40 is a fair price

I've managed to remove the doorcards and remove any unnecessary bits and pieces. I'm pretty sure I don't have to remove pop riveted window regulator.
