    The frustrating thing is this was a complete one off and there was already a sizable amount in the account, just not quite enough to cover the transfer until the cheque had cleared. I'm just surprised the cheque amount showed up on the account balance immediately rather than after it had cleared. As I said above I'd forgotten it was a cheque when I set up the transfer, just presumed because the account balance had been credited that it was available for transfer.

    There is either a glitch on it, or they have deliberately adjusted the way the balances are viewed.

    This was my experience exactly. End of day, a lesson learnt to check the 'available funds' before moving money around and not to rely on the account balance alone.
