Question for the diplomatic amongst uswhich isnt me
I need to put something firmly but politely to a neighbour.
There is a hedge which goes right round our front garden as we are semi detached it borders the alleyway on one side a bit across the front & along the border with the neighbours garden.
This is the hedge I was clipping when I tried to chop the end off my finger.
Ignoring who owns the border/fence the fact is this hedge planted by the original owner in the 1930's is on our property it does grow into her garden.
Her "gardener" has today cut the side on her side & the top  its a bit straggly but only about 3ft or 4ft max , its not even straight I'm so annoyed :mad:also the little bit at the end of our garden facing the street.
I want to say that this is our hedge if it needs cutting I will cut it, if she wants to cut the side on her side I want her to speak to me first I dont want it cut when there is the chance of a frost or hacked to death etc, this "gardener" cuts her lawn in winter when its almost waterlogged with an electric mower  its only a pocket hankerchief garden FGS and she wouldnt know a weed if it slapped her in the face
Tell her you saw she paid someone to cut the hedge and that you feel bad as its actually yours and not her expense.
Politely tell her you'll do it in future and for her to let you know when she's cutting her side so you can 'help'.
Good luck!MSE- The Glitchhikers guide to the galaxy0 -

TBH though, if the hedge/tree etc has branches overhanging into your neighbour's gardeen they are well within their rights to trim them back to the boundary. If fruit etc is involved they are supposed to give them back. (In fact the branches etc are supposed to be given back too because they belong to you, but I don't imagine many would be bothered).
The fact that her gardener has made a carp job is a different story. I'm not sure that you get a say in how your neighbour's garden looks, but I would maybe speak to her when I was about to trim my side and ask if she wanted her side "evened up" or something, and then say that as the hedge originates in your garden and is a bit of a hassle to keep trimmed you don't mind doing it all if she doesn't mind? It saves her getting someone in to do it.
I'd focus on the hassle and time you'd save her by doing it yourself. Most people would be happy to let you do the job. Fancy coming to do mine?:D

My camping list had
Dormens spicy nuts, vegetable crisps, trattoria verdi tomato sauce, wholewheat pasta, sild, Kosher Orange juice cartons, Bavaria and M & S Greenwich Ale to mention a few. Missed the pepsi as I was away but took some 2l cokes.
And gave out a few of the Happy Easter chocolate egg and spoon sets to DD3's friends that we have got know at the campsite, we all go the same time each year.
We through the orange juice out, it tasted "burnt" as if it had been over pasteurised.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Yes it is a carp job not really overhanging it more or less goes straight up, its tricky been neighbours since i was a child it was never an issue when my Dad or her husband did the gardens now she's a widow & elderly its like a status thing having a £12 an hour gardener who just hacks it all up in her garden but this is our hedge & there can be no mistake about the bit of our garden facing the road she has cut, I take great pride in that bit, its like having a bad haircut you cant stick it back on, if I wait for it to grow & dont say anything she'll do the same before I can sort it out
Thanks all for your advice keep it coming0
