Visa is the only credit card accepted in Madagascar and both of my credit cards are MasterCard. I contacted RBS and asked if they could swap my MC for a Visa. I was told I should have asked last week as they stopped issuing Visa cards on Monday.
So I then thought about applying for a new card. I went to the money supermarket website and put my details in to the credit card checker where they check your credit file and match you to the cards best suited to you. The results came back as me having an "Excellent" credit score (knew that already). However the only cards they were recommending for me were Capital One cards with HUGE API's:eek:
I decided to apply for one anyway and passed the initial credit assessment but before putting my digital signature on the credit agreement I thought "lets see what others are available and hopefully I can get a better card with a better API." I applied for an AA card which I was rejected for but it wasn't until afterwards that I noticed that the AA card is underwritten by MBNA. MBNA have never liked us as shortly before dad died he bought a JCB on his MBNA credit card (literally two weeks). MBNA were not happy about writing the debt off and ever since then whenever any of us have applied for an MBNA card or a card underwritten by MBNA it's always been a flat no, despite all of us having perfect credit ratings.
So I quickly went back and applied my digital signature to the Cap One credit agreement and now it's being processed and any further checks will be made. I hope my AA application doesn't mess things up with Cap One.
My share of the car hire will go on the card then it will never be used again so it's not really a great loss if I don't get it but it would have been handy for a back up of a back up when travelling.
Does anyone that knows about these things know if I've possibly messed up?
HI Happy
don't know if this helps but RBS dropped visa two years ago when they started their visa debit cards.
You can only have a visa credit card if you have private banking already or already have one.
Every time you apply for a credit card it adds a marker to your credit file that will drop away in a couple of months but other lenders can see you have applied so don't do too many at once.
Barclaycard is quite good at the mo, seems easy to get (well I got two this week)and Sainsburys as well.0 -

DS has got 2 A*'s and 2 A's so made his Durham offer :TAnd hes made the A'level offer for Cambridge but had to take 2 Steps exams for Cambridge and passed one but not the other so has been pooled by Cambridge and we'll know hopefully tomorrow if hes in:)Been the most emotional night ever and can't stop my eyes from watering;)Fingers crossed for tomorrow:)
I know I only quoted these two great results but would like to congratulate all those who got the results they wanted today and hope that those who don't, manage to go on and get a course place suitable. But as one poster said, as long as they have wwworked hard and did the best they could, they should be proud of themselves and their parents proud of them too. Not everyone gets to go to Oxford/Cambridge, or any university but as long as whatever they do after leaving 'school' is what they want to do and they will be happy doing it, will work hard and be rewarded for that, then that is success in my eyes and for that, I applaud you allMr 3Dogs 3-7-12
