Hi. Anyone done any research or have any experience in investing in GOLD?
Keep hearing the benefits of it as a long term investment. ISA limits sorted and don't have the interest in playing the stockmarket, so GOLD looks interesting.
I've only just begun to do some research and so far been looking into this company based in Ireland:

thanks for the link!
yeah, been reading that. but there's the speculative element that declining mine sources will lead to boom in prices of existing gold in the market. i know it's all speculation, but kinda figure buying some gold bullion coins, storing them away, will leave me free of regular stock market buying and selling and hey, the returns will likely be better than a 4-5yr investment in a share ISA.....but i'm speculating of course.0 -
you can get historical charts from kitco.com
gold can be volatile. If the price is static then you would loose value over time re inflation0 -
I speculated in gold once and it has cost me a fortune ever since!
I invested in two gold rings, one for me and one for Mrs. Dither. I've been broke ever sinceMortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Yes - in the sense of " gambling "...
Buying bullion will cost you a premium, a very high one in some cases. You'll also need to store and insure the coins. If you want to speculate on the price of gold you'd be better off using an exchange traded fund though there are problems with those as well.
FWIW and IMHO, gold is OK for a small part ( 5% or less ) of a wider portfolio of investments but it is absolutely not a substitute for equity investment. A small collection of gold coins chosen by someone who knows what they're doing could well do better than a stock market investment but that would depend more on the desirability of the actual coins than their gold content. A random selection of sovereigns ( the cheapest coins IIRC ) is unlikely to do as well.0 -

Ebay provides cheap sovereigns but you have to make sure that they are not fake, this would save a buyers premium.
!!! Also remember that gold can be sold as scrap metal TAX free at a decent jewellers.0 -
