Hi
Can anyone help me re this.
I rang up sky back in May this year, i explained that my money situation had changed and that i had moved back home to my parents who already had sky and let them know i couldnt pay and wanted to cancel. To cancel i had to pay £160 out right which i couldnt afford so i got told to write a letter to sky subscriber which i did. i have no reply so in june i called them and they said that they would look into this.
Today i go and get petrol and i have no money on my account. Sky have taken out 2 payments for termination of contract one of 74.04p and one of 42.30p.
I rang them up and explained that they have taken the money out of a bank account which i closed on my sky account last december and also they took it out without my permission. SUrely they cant go back and take money out of an old bank account which i told them not to use.
They said they wrote a letter to me to tell me but they sent the letter to the address where the sky box is at (my old address) and not the new address which i live at which i had given them over the phone and in a letter. I said to them i am willing to set up a direct debit to take some out monthly.
The lad on the phone first said yes i can understand i will sort this out then he comes back on the phone and says my manager says we cant refund it you will have to write to us in writing.
I cant afford to wait that long. I have my rent and gas and electic to come out of my account tomorrow.
Where do i stand with this? Any ideas and can sky do this......

Best thing to do would be to read your Sky contract. If they have acted outside this you will be able to do something.0

I presume you mean "£74.04 and one of £42.30" and not "74.04p and one of 42.30p". If they took the amounts by DD and did not advise you 1st go to your bank and request a DD refund on that basis.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

No it wasnt a direct debit it was just taken from my account with no direct debit set up or any consent from me....0

It would not have been possible for them to 'take money from your account' unless there was a DD set up or they knew your debit card details.
With the former, you can demand your bank reverse the calls immediately.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I'm not sure where you stand on this but as you are living with your mum and dad are you not able to pay them your rent, gas and electric in a few days/weeks time when you have the money ? Maybe they can help you out.
I would also contact your bank and see what they say.0 -
They are under no obligation to let you pay off the ETC over several months. Once you break the contract, the full ETC becomes due immediately. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

For them to have your bank details on record you must have given them permission at one time to take money from that account. You have now cancelled and told them you cannot pay (the real situation is you choose not to pay that debt but rather pay other bills first) what you owe them - they have disproved that statement by taking the money. AFAIK you cannot stop them taking money that you owe them by merely saying they cannot.0
-
When you signup, don't they take your debit card details?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

you should of rang your bank to say you have lost your debit card and send you another , that way sky would have no way of taking anything out on your new card without the details etc, let it be a learning lesson0
