Apologies if this duplicates an existing post but just read in my daily paper that Barclays have increased the previous gross rate pa of 6.31% to 6.56% - or 6.76% AER.

After the same sort of delays that others have experienced, my cheques were cashed and yesterday the ISA Helpline confirmed I had a balance of £6K but no interest yet added. I was advised to ring again in June by which time interest would have been added - hah!

Rather than battle with getting through to the Helpine I have given in and applied for a Barclays current bank account as, apparently, that is the only way I can get to look at the ISA account online. Anyone else know different?

    Cheers

The Barclays website (savings > interest rates > withdrawn accounts) stills shows the old rate and says last updated 16 March 2007. Let's hope they change it soon.

... got my welcome pack today, with a letter saying they opened my account on 17th May. Handed my app in 17th APRIL! Good job I only gave them a cheque for £10, and the money earned interest where it was.
No standing order set up as requested tho!

Well, it's a week and a bit since I spoke to the advisor (today is the day that the 'advisor' said the account will be open). It's now about six weeks since I sent my application in and the money still hasn't gone from my nominated account.

Am bristling with excitement at the thought of the next two hours trying to get through to another 'advisor'.

tomorrow is the day when they SHOULD be adding our compounded interest for the 6th-30th April.......................

.............i wont be holding my breath though!!!!!!!
  • It looks like they've stuck to their word - I've been credited today with £29.05 interest on top of the £0.52 I received on 1st May.

That seems correct for £3,000 from 6th April, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

    Wow!!!

Just checked online and I have been credited with just over £29 in interest for my 07/08 ISA which I opened on 6 April. Or at least I submitted the application for it on that date and they opened it in early May. That figure seems about right

Despite all the angst, they seem to come up with the goods. I hope their processes are better than this when I transfer out just before their guarantee expires next year....

Darn, I wish there was a way to check my standing balance but I only hold an ISA with Barclays unfortunately (or should that be fortunately!) so no internet banking for me. I can only imagine that it is as everyone is saying and I too have received the interest. Wish I could get a balance statement though!

Totally share your frustration mate! In desperation I have very very reluctantly applied for a Barclays current account just to get online access - what a flippin' palaver eh? I applied online yesterday and isn't it a bit odd that I got the application through the post to sign today? Seems to be an imbalance of staffing at Barclays and they need to move some over to the ISA department methinks.

I did however get through to the helpline earlier this week and they sent me a statement which at least shows my deposits of two lots of £3k. My wife and I took our forms in to the Exeter Branch on 2 April but the statement shows the account opened as of 1 May.

I wasn't able to deposit further money for a 2007/8 ISA until I received my account details and sent this cheque off the same day I received them. This was set up a bit quicker on 16 May.

I have so far only had a holding response from Barclays to my email and letters of complaint.

    Not good.
