Cameras allowed in Olympic Venues?

I've just looked up the list of prohibited items for St. James' Park, and it includes "Any equipment capable of recording or transmitting (by digital or other means) any audio, visual or audio-visual material"

http://www.london2012.com/mm/Document/Documents/General/01/25/83/87/StJamesParkprohibitedandrestricteditems_Neutral.pdf

It's pretty clear, but such a surprise, so I am just double checking. Are they really not allowing cameras in the venues? Are they really expecting people not to have cameras and mobiles capable of taking photos with them?

If that's really the case, they're surely going to end up confiscating binloads of mobile phones?

I took mine to Greenwich Park without a problem and saw loads of cameras there.
  • I've been to SJP twice (one game featured Japan so there were some fabulous cameras in the crowd) and there is no problem with cameras or taking photos.
The stewards do tell people off for swearing though!

I went to the olympic tennis and was really surprised at the size of some of the cameras they had let in, several people near me had long lens professional looking ones. Everyone had a camera of sorts and was openly taking photos. I wouldnt worry if i were you.

Absolutely loads of cameras (including long lens and video) at the rowing. They specify you can't use them for sale unless accredited but other than that, for showing friends/ momentos, absolutely fine

    I've been Money Tipped!
We went on Tuesday and I had time to chat to the security, one thing they told me was that they wouldn't let in cameras with removable lenses. However, during the day I saw loads so there you go!

I think the rule might be more about video. Was there yesterday and took tonnes of pics.

  • I was lucky enough to go to one of the technical rehearsals for the opening ceremony and everyone was taking photos. Danny Boyle just asked us not to show anyone before the event. I would not worry and have a great time.
