I don't think it's a question of "fighting a chargeback" as such; what soolin is talking about here is Paypal Seller Protection, where Paypal say that they'll bear the cost in certain circumstances if the seller merely has proof of postage.

I find it hard to believe simply producing proof of postage would be sufficient in fighting a chargeback. Simply presenting proof of postage means nothing. To be on the upper hand at defending a chargeback, you would need (at the very least) clear and concise terms and conditions outlining time restrictions on claims.

The fact PayPal has been used is of benefit to op, since PayPals defense can be the buyer deposited fund in to the PayPal account successfully.

    it does for a chargeback
Dont confuse this with Paypal disputes. then its proof of delivery

Paypal (my ipad keeps correcting that to Papal which is worrying!) do protect sellers and after 45 days the seller protection kicks in. It changed a few years back and more recently (within the last couple of years) has been extended to all sales whether on paypal or not.

As I stated you do have to have followed the paypal rules though to be covered, most importantly shipping to the address that paypal say is 'OK to send to' within 7 days of payment.

I have successfully defended a bank chargeback twice now, one quite recently but it did take a while. The most recent one took about 25 days to resolve once paypal froze the funds in my account for that purchase.

Well, she's said she's contacting her bank about the chargeback and says she has a crime reference number off the police but i'm yet to hear anything from PayPal. Does this take a while? I've got a feeling she's bluffing. Not sure why the police would be interested in a paypal claim?! I posted the item to the address on paypal but then a few weeks later she changed her address, hadn't heard anything to say she hadn't received it so didn't think anything of it. I haven't got the proof of postage so i'm bound to lose the claim :(
  • She's calling your bluff with regards to the police. They really wouldn't be interested. My daughter and her boyfriend were ripped off by a dodgy landlord to the tune of £5000 and the police weren't interested at all - civil matter!!

If she had instigated any sort of chargeback with her bank then there would be a note when you logged into PayPal , and funds would be held in Case they needed to refund. If your PayPal account shows no outstanding issues it seems unlikely that she has managed to get her bank interested.

I doubt also whether the police would be remotely interested , and again as she's the only one contacting you I suggest she is calling your bluff.

As you don't have POP though you would lose Any bank chargeback, but I suspect the bank have told her to go away.
