Chargeback on PayPal

Hey, wonder if anybody can help me here? I'm not sure if this is the right forum bit for it but i'll give it a go.
Basically, i used to run my own little clothing site of clothes i used to make. Only about 3 items a week and nothing particularly high value, i just did it to make a bit of extra food money as i'm a student.
I sold one item 97 days ago. i've had an facebook message off the lady saying she hasn't received the item and that she has contacted the police for a crime number and her bank about a chargeback and trading standards about me! The item value is less than £50. I'm obviously VERY worried about her going to the police about me! i sent the item by standard mail so i have no proof if she received it or not. She paid via paypal. Any help would be greatly appreciated xxxxxx

Just ignore it and it will go away. No crime has been committed so the police won't get involved. It's past 45 days so Paypal wont get involved.
Paypal is a third party so the bank won't get involved.
She is maybe having a bad month and thinks you might be an easy target. 97 days is a bit late to be claiming non delivery.0 -
She's said that she's gone to the police to report a 'theft' and that as soon as she calls visa with the crime number they'll start a chargeback :S. Really concerned as i have no way of proving if she received the item or not

Sounds like someone trying their luck. Either that or a scammer.
I can assure you that she will have a hard time explaining why it took 97 days to complain about a delivery of an item.
Was it sold on eBay or direct through your website? You can't beat an egg.........................NO WAIT!0 -
it was sold through my website, would the bank question her before doing the chargeback or would they just go ahead and do it?0
-
The worst that will happen is they will give her, her money back.0

Has she reported non-delivery before now?
Do your terms of business place a time limit on such?0 -

Goods not received is a valid reason for instigating a chargeback and the time limit is actually 120 days.
It gets complicated as they didn't pay you direct, they paid PayPal whom then paid you. Many card issuers will not allow chargebacks where a third party is involved - although many seem to be relaxing the rules on this.
PayPal will then place the transaction in dispute and put the funds on hold. Since you cannot provide proof of delivery it's likely the buyer will receive a refund.
You can argue it should be been reported earlier and if applicable copy in your supporting terms and conditions, but I doubt PayPal will win the chargeback for you0 -
She would have her money back, because there is no evidence that she received the item. This is not something to lose sleep over. Next time just send recorded delivery.0

Sellers have protection on paypal as pointed out earlier. Do not mistake a simple INR through paypal with a bank chargeback- sellers need different proof to guard against the two types.
For an INR claim via paypal the time linit for a claim is 45 days and to defend it a seller needs proof of delivery. (recorded is not useful as in many areas it rarely shows delivery online).
If however the bank get involved either for a fraudulent use of card or chargeback then sellers are protected by uploading a proof of postage -as long as item is covered by seller protection and was sent to the address that paypal gave and within 7 days the seller is protected.
Paypal often confuse the claims, so it is worth keeping an eye on any paypal dispute and uploading items even before being asked- if they start to deviate from their own rules then call them.
Due to the ease at which a chargeback can be defended on the ebay board we always suggest people keep their POPs for a minimum of 180 days.
Incidentally, if buyer does a full chargeback and wins via their bank (and that is not guarantees by any means) paypal will take the loss if seller has seller protection- and buyers paypal account will almost certainly be closed as a misuse of the system as paypal do not like these dodgy late chargeback claims as it costs them money.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I find it hard to believe simply producing proof of postage would be sufficient in fighting a chargeback. Simply presenting proof of postage means nothing. To be on the upper hand at defending a chargeback, you would need (at the very least) clear and concise terms and conditions outlining time restrictions on claims. If however the bank get involved either for a fraudulent use of card or chargeback then sellers are protected by uploading a proof of postage -as long as item is covered by seller protection and was sent to the address that paypal gave and within 7 days the seller is protected.
The fact PayPal has been used is of benefit to op, since PayPals defense can be the buyer deposited fund in to the PayPal account successfully.0
