Well well well,
I had my contract for my extension to my system today. Seems i may well be getting the 45.4p a unit. My contract states it and an eligibility period of 25 years, with an export rate of 4.5p.....Do i tell them they've dropped a b***ock or keep stum?:D

I've just heard the DNO has given the go-ahead for my 3kWp extension.
This will make a total of 5.96kWp of almost south facing panels. Install is due week after next.

Solar PV System 2: 3.00kWp South-4 degrees. Roof 28 degrees. SolarEdge system

Dave , glad to here they let you upgrade without to much hassle, would you mind if I asked the cost implication for the G83-2/G53 ? application ?
thanks0 -
The installer has not charged me any extra. He said he got the forms on line, completed them and sent them back by email. Got the reply from the DNO 6 days later.jamesingram wrote: »Dave , glad to here they let you upgrade without to much hassle, would you mind if I asked the cost implication for the G83-2/G53 ? application ?

James, if I may interrupt. Had a chat with Western Power Distribution after completion, really helpful local contact. He told me that technically I shouldn't have gone via a G83-2, rather a G59 application. I asked the cost as I'd heard it was many hundreds of pounds, plus something like £800 fee for them to 'observe' the install to ensure it's done properly.
He told me that only applies for 50kWp installs, and for domestic scale the fee is about £40, and no need to 'observe' install.
My main gripe, was that I went through about 7 installers all telling me they weren't interested, and that there was no point even trying for an extension. So, me being me, I just rang WPD and asked for a chat - they were brilliant and told me what to do, they then popped round for a quick look at the house and said it would be ok. I then rang an installer who was a SolarEdge specialist, told him I had permission (sort of!), and walked him through the application, e-mailing him all the required docs.
Edit: Sorry, to explain better, I tried to do that application myself, like getting planning permission, but it doesn't work that way, the DNO gives permission to the specific electrician to do the job, so they have to apply, with their qualifications and signature.

Thanks Mart for clarifying the situation about the various forms. My installer just said he had filled in 'the necessary G59 form' but did not go into any detail.

The installers have just finished installing the extra 3kWp system on my garage. This adds to the old 2.96kWp on the house roof. The new system will suffer from shading as it is on a lower roof. The new system has power optimisers fitted to each panel. It will be interesting to compare the outputs of these two nearly identical (power-wise) systems. Both systems are within a degree or so of South.
I asked the installer if he had been set a maximum limit by the DNO for the extension. He said no limit had been mentioned.

Just for the avoidance of doubt - did you get the current fit rate for the new installation? (if you don't mind me asking).
Do the power optimisers come with comprehensive display software, like the solar edge stuff? (or is it solar edge?). It would be really interesting to see how much you get from individual panels when some are in shade at this time of the year.
Currently, I have at least one or two panels shaded all the time, and consequently get next to no generation. I'm hoping for some in February! I could have a load of trees chopped down, but really I'd rather not for what I expect would be a small gain - perhaps 100kwh max pa. (Mines a 1.75kW system). I could probably get much of that gain with micro inverters, but again, I doubt it would be worth it.
I assume your HW tank will be hot by 10am these days, what have you planned for all the extra generation after that?0
