in Credit cards
I was in Tesco today at the self service machine and I accidentally put the card in the wrong way around. (Wasn't paying all that much attention). I went to turn it around and noticed on the screen it told me to swipe instead (So I did). It printed out with a receipt to sign like in the USA and how it used to be here and the checkout guy came over and just took the receipt off me saying (Oh that sometimes happens). So I basically just did a shop with no card holder verification at all? I was also under the impression that fallback was turned off.

It happened to me a few times at Sports Direct. I don't think it's anything you should be worried about.0

Same thing happened to me in WHSmith! I was so amazed at being given a receipt to sign I completely forgot how to use a pen0

Happens to me in my localM&S, they have a dodgy card machine on the self serve and I nearly always have to sign0

Haha not just me then. I could have swore somewhere that card issuers turned off fallback.
I hated the signature system we had in the UK but I actually like the one in the US. Don't mess about with the contactless, under 25 dollar transactions get swiped and approved straight away (No signature needed) also transactions seem to get approved practically instantly.0 -
I find it slightly worrying that someone could steal your card in Tesco and just put it in the wrong way around to swipe it through.0

I'll have to give that a go lol!0 -
In theory if you drop your card in Tesco (and other stores where this is allowed) you COULD put the card in the wrong way round and sign - the liability for any loss then passes from your bank to Tesco for accepting a transaction when there is a chip and pin facility.
IMO some shops deserve to be ripped off for us consumers doing their jobs ie serving us!0 -

You do have a choice whether to wait and get served or use the self-scan though. Plenty of people prefer it (I do - and I work for a supermarket!), so you can hardly moan at them for providing it!sharpy2010 wrote: »Thanks for such an insightful input.
While they were vague, they were completely right. There is nothing at all to worry about. I don't think stealing cards to use them in Tesco self-serve machines (which are all covered by CCTV) is really going to be a major thing!0
