Is this site not completely independent, are recommendations based on companies paying for advertising?

The site is owned by moneysupermarket.com but it carries no adverts and the funding is explained in http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/moneysavingexpert-finance

Found this about the Nationwide FlexDirect account in their FAQ's:

Can I open more than one FlexDirect account?
You can open up to four Nationwide current accounts, however you are only guaranteed the 5% AER promotional interest rate on one FlexDirect account.

They are not strictly enforcing that though for some reason ;-)

So why is Santander the only current account recommended for saving money in when others are available?

Yes I know of one other poster on here that has 4 of them. Not hard to find if you poke around the forums for a bit.

Personally I'd use the interest free overdraft to stooze their money elsewhere. I could probably play them off against each of the nationwide accounts but that's a bit too cheeky :rotfl:

I just called Nationwide to ask about something else, and asked the question, can I get another FlexDirect account and the 5% it pays. Answer - only if a joint account, not another sole account.

That is the 'official' answer (re the point on their site that you are only guaranteed interest on one FD account), but in practice people are successfully receiving 5% on multiple accounts.
