You could do it alone but I think if you went to a club it would help to motivate you. I'm a SW convert and I'm sure you could lose at least a stone in that time, more if you follow the plan to the letter and get out with those dogs!
  • Thank you everyone for our help,

    Hi OP -

So, now that you have made the decision to 'go for it' have you decided if you are going to join a group? I think purley for info and motivation it's the best option, esp as you have not done SW before.

There are several groups on FB (and on here) that are full of SW members/ people following the plan. You can get some really good tips, but I think a group helps you get your head around it.

I found SW really disconcerting at first - I did not understand how I could eat so much and still lose weight. But lose weight I did and after 7 weeks I have lost almost a stone, but most important - I have droped a dress size!

Hope you do decide to give it a go - if you have the determination, you really won't look back.

I've been going to SW for 10 weeks and I've lost 1 stone 1 lb. That probably doesn't sound much but for me it is - I always lose weight really slowly and the most I've lost in one wek is 3 lbs.

That sounds like an excellent weight loss as it is sustainable, a loss of 1 or 2 lbs a week is recommended for long term results. ;)
  • If you’re looking for weight loss solutions, here’s what worked for me- eat less of carbs and if you must, eat the healthy kind like non-starchy, fibrous veggies along with some kind of protein such as chicken, turkey, seafood or tofu. Swimming always helps and is easy on your knees so I’d definitely recommend that. I lost 27 pounds in 11 weeks dieting and swimming.

in my first week of slimming world, i lost 7lb! I am very overweight though. I then settled to 2-3 lb a week and when i follow it really religiously, I can lose up to 4 and a half pounds in a week, although this is unusual for me!

I'm currently doing SW and after 3 months I'm about to reach a 2 stone loss. It depends on how heavy you start out and what your lifestyle is like as to how quickly you can lose weight sensibly. I'm trying to boost my losses with some exercise, but I didn't really in the beginning.

Stay away from slimming pills. A lot of them work by stopping your body absorbing fat - instead you poo it out in liquid form. No amount of weight loss is worth pooing yourself.

Realistically, whatever you lose you'll still be better off than you are now. Even if it's half a stone, odds are you would have gained a few lbs in the meantime anyway so the net effect is greater. And half a stone down is better than half a stone up however you look at it. Don't worry so much about how much you can lose, you're setting yourself up for disappointment by comparing yourself to others. Just keep doing the right things and over time the weight will come off. Celebrate every lb!
