Waste of time [imo] so ... ignore, ignore ignore some more.

Since your usual post on here goes along the lines of "someone should try this, but I can't be @rsed", I take it that you've never corresponded with the CEO of a retail or service company.

I have, on several occasions, and I assure you that a polite, properly-thought-out complaint to the CEO really does get their attention, and even if it doesn't get immediate results, a steady drip-drip of customers threatening to go elsewhere will eventually get through to them.

Ignoring these scams is all very well on an individual basis, but it will not stop the scam while the majority continue to unthinkingly pay up. Going directly to those with the most clout (the retailers) and demonstrating that this is hitting them in the only place they care about (their pocket) is clearly the best way of ultimately getting rid of the racket completely.

I'm pleased that you can be ar53d...because then I don't have to.

This issue reminds me of the 'Dear Economist' column [and book].....where he explains human behaviour in terms of economic models. I am aware this sounds dull, dull, dull but it's actually very interesting.

In this scenario, the payoff to me if I write is zero [I already know how to 'not pay invoices'] so it requires someone with a self-interest pay-off [a moral crusader, an indignant DM reader, an 'I'll show them not to mess with me'-er, an OWS-er, a 'stick it to the man'-er, a 'Freeman of the Realm'-er, etc].

I'm not knocking these people who can be bothered I'm saying that for >99.99% of people it's not absolutely worth it.

Otherwise known as an "I'm alright Jack and sod the rest of you" attitude. How very community minded of you. Remind me why you post on this board ?

    I am hurt, deeply hurt.

Still I'll get over it eventually.

I am guessing by your username that you're one of the aforementioned types who IS motivated to write to CEOs etc.

    A big thank you.
