Child benefit claim - sending original documents

Hi, I'm looking to apply for child benefit for the first time and after speaking to HMRC they require original documents to be sent. As my son was born overseas they also need me to send his passport along with birth certificate. The problem I have is I Royal Mail can't be trusted and it makes me very uneasy sending these…

hi, CBO (child benefit office) will not accept verified copies of anything, by all means if you feel uneasy about sending originals in , you could send copies in but you will receive a letter from cbo asking for originals and at that point an extra 12 week time scale will be added to your claim, if your child was born abroad i can only imagine the time scale will already be up to 26 weeks for the claim to be processed.
