Returning to work, but pay not until October.

I am due to start full time work 1st September
Received my contract today and found out I will not get paid until 27th October as I work a month in arrears.

Due my last appointment with job centre 28th August to sign off IS etc.

My youngest gets DLA higher rate but careers allowance has stopped, I get CB weekly

I am assuming Tax credits will stop and working tax credits will kick in but not sure on time frame.

stressing big time now that I am going to be stuck 8 ish weeks with very little coming in.

I am private rented at £1200pcm my rent will be due twice during that time frame, children will need childcare for 2 months during that time (family cannot step in)
Will need to reclaim HB as working iykwim meaning new forms to fill in ( but ok with that it's all part of it)
Am I missing something? Can anyone help, I'm sure job centre said I would get a 4 week run on but that was for HB

Are you sure on that , most places that pay in arrears will do so at the end of the 1st month rather than the 2nd month.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

But if you get paid at the end of september then your being paid for september, but a month in arrears to me means being paid for the previous months work. So in the above case, payment at end of october for the whole of september.
  • A month in arrears means you work a month, then get paid. You should be paid at the end of September.

You may be getting confused with working time IN HAND (which is usual in, eg, the building trade) which means you work two weeks before getting paid one week.

The joys of CSA however I never count on it, my children's dad has played the re calculation game before, before you jump on me again not that it matters in the grand scheme of things we got married before we had children, just divorced last year. After a few years apart. Through his own choice he see's them once a month, been through the courts and CSA took around a year to pin him down for deduction of earnings, however as above he has managed to get them to re caulculate thus holding it up, I never count on CM from him.

Has your CA stopped already? I recently started work and they paid me right up to the week I got my first wage. I started work on 20th May, got paid 20th June and last CA payment was 18th June

That is incorrect advice from the JC!! I'm sure they don't know their a$$ fromt heir elbow! It will stop, but not until you get paid. I gave them a call to tell them I was starting work on 20th May. They asked when I would get my first wage (20th June) then they said I would keep receiving CA until my first wage, which I did!
Give the CA unit a call and they will send take the details from you and send a form that you have to send back once you get your first wage.

I know it's not a lot, but that £50odd a week can make all the difference!
