    Hi

Is he going to uni a year early? (If he is now 16 and going to Uni in september). As Kilty pointed out, you can't get credit until you're 18.

He will be 16 and 11 months when he goes. To be honest, he is not interested in credit. We were just wondering if there are any good introductory offers etc..

How is he going to uni so young?! Surely everyone is 18 when they go to uni to do a degree? You do your GCSE's when your 16 and then two years of A levels / other education then you go to uni? No one is under 18 when they start uni?

For the bank: I stuck with Barclays as I was already with them and found they were extremely helpfull as I was an existing customer. Maybe try the bank hes with now?

Oh wait, that could be it then! Didnt realise your in Scotland :)

In england you have your 16th birthday the year of your GCSE's then your 17th and 18th birthdays when you do your A-levels. I used to work in a pub and when we had student nights it was a known fact that you couldnt be in uni if you werent 18. So we didnt have too many ID problems. Oh and I know the way the system works as Im only 19 and went through it myself not that long ago.

Didnt mean to come across funny, (apologies if I did) I was just thinking that its not possible for him to be 16 and going to uni (well down here anyway). So I was all confused :)

What bank is he with now? Maybe they will have a good student deal that would be worth looking at?

Haha! Felt like I was under interrogation! it is possible for 16 year olds to go to uni but he will be one month away from being 17!

He is going into the bank tomorrow to get some advice. Thanks for posting. :D

If his going for an actual student account its best to wait until June or July as that is when the offers start. Many banks won't let you sign up for next year until then anyway or even until after results if the offer is conditional.

you will probably find that he can't open the account until he has registered at uni - so you can wait a while to get the best deal. as helix says, most banks will only publicise their new offers in the summer, so banks that are giving good deals now might be outdone by others later in the year.
