Hi,
I've told my Dad about how helpful these forums are and know that he does visit them sometimes. DFW has helped me through very hard patches in my life and I've found the support and advice I've been given invaluable, but now I'm really upset and feel like I can't post what I want to incase he reads it

Sorry to hear you feel that way jet77. I know it won't be an ideal solution, as you have been on here for a long time as jet77, but perhaps you could consider changing your username? Don't post too many details in your signature.
If you are used to chatting to certain people on here and want them to know who you are, you could always PM them to let them know.
Your anonymity is very precious because sometimes it's good to escape and be able to talk to people who won't know who you are.
Give it some thought - whatever you do, don't disappear, you'd be missed!

and I do sometimes wonder if those that I've told come onto this forum and put two and two together about my posts.
The thing is you've told your dad you visit these forums and he may put two and two together but I wouldn't worry - he may not even see your posts!2014 Target;

Well said smilealot, this site is brill because we can all talk about the good and bad times of becoming debt-free. I tell the people on here lots of things that I don't tell my friends and family. I'm a closet debtor and nobody knows about it (apart from the few hundred people on here).
If your unable to change your username maybe you could re-register under a different username and as smilealot suggested you could PM any people on here that your particularly friendly with.
Good luck whatever you decide0 -
looking at your sig, id hope your dad would be proud that you're obviously commited to sorting out your finances...
but then my mum has no idea of the debt im in, and my ability to seem to motivate myself to clear it!!0 -
Thank you soooo much for your replies. Smilealot has got me in tears. I've hardly been on here for the last month n I didn't realise how much I've missed u all. God I'm turning into a soppy old cow ha ha. I've got a very emotional day 2moro and I'm not sure how it will turn out but instead of sitting here worrying all night uv made me remember that I've got friends on here - which may seem strange as I've never met any of u but u know what I mean.....
I've only just changed my username because it contained the initial of my ex in it. It seems cheeky to ask again so soon - what do u think?JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0 -
Think you are doing so well.
Only £74 to go & you will be under £3000.

I have also found out that I may now be entitled to some housing benefit because I'm renting but I do own a property that I had to move from which I'm renting out so I'm not 100% sure. But anyway, I have got the application form, filled it in and hv got together all the squillions of paperwork bits they ask for (apart from my feb pay slip which I can't find) so I will take it in on Monday.JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0
