Does planning permission have to be advertised?!

    Unfortunately you've cherry picked the wrong bit of the DMPO there. Section 13 only applies to certain types of applications.

    Generally speaking, there is no requirement to advertise in any particular way - unless the site is within a conservation area, near a listed building etc, in which case a site notice and newspaper ad are compulsory.

    oops. just rechecked. pre 2010 the publicity requirements were more stringent. why the change?

    Your Parish council will (should have)have been informed but it is a well know trick for developers to submit plans just after a Parish council meeting hopeing that they will be passed before the council meet and have chance to object.

    Our Parish Council have had this done to them and the clerk informed all the councillors and collated a response before the deadline. The Parish Council have also rearranged their meeting dates in order that they could discuss important matters such as planning permission in the locality.
    I would guess it's down to the local Parish but the councillors do work outside of the monthly meeting dates!
    All developments which are more than a couple of dwellings have always approached the Council in the first instance in order to gauge possible reactions to their plans so they could then amend them before putting forward for planning permission.
