Should buyers be able to leave low stars for dispatch time if marked as dispatched...

Options
...if marked as dispatched within the time frame on the listing?

Open to abuse by sellers, sure, but then so is the buyer leaving stars for sellers. It''s not much different to what happens with the communication stars? The buyer could also make a note in feedback highlighting the quick dispatch but long amount of time to receive item.

And yes, I have just received a low star, despite all my items being dispatched within the 2 day time frame.

Ebay, gotta love it :wall:

I know how you feel, I posted everything the day after payment and still ended up with low stars, how is it my fault if royal mail took there time?

Personally if something is later I do look for the postage date on the package before rating dispatch time.

I too, know how you feel. I always dispatch items within 1 working day, usually same day and mark them as dispatched when they are actually dispatched so buyer knows item is on way (also adding tracking number if it's tracked). I sold an item on the Saturday night of the Queen's Jubilee (long) weekend and arranged for the courier to collect on the next possible day which was the Wednesday. Buyer received item 3 days later (exactly one week after payment), left me neutral feedback stating 'thanks' and 1 star for dispatch and postage charges despite me charging the exact cost of the postage.

I contacted eBay regarding this and proved the item was dispatched on the first available day after payment and the P&P I charged was the couriers price but they were unwilling to remove feedback. Very unfair I thought.

It depends whether that timescale is reasonable or not. 1 working day is fine, but buyers expect prompt dispatch and Amazon, for example, makes you post within 2 days, and withholds money until you do. I suppose it's this benchmark that has filtered through to eBay, but I'm happier with people being given incentives to post promptly/disincentives to delay postage, than encouraged to stick to their own timescales. Personally I have never had problems with 2-day dispatch, except when I was deliberately wrecked.

I would never take money for something then leave it sitting around for more than two working days. I'm glad eBay have started to make anything above 3 days 'exceptional' on the 'list your item form', that might help with some people. If you're paid for something, the money is already liquid in you account, so there is no reason to delay postage.

I had a delivery where they claim delivery within 2-3 days from UK stock. It actually took 8 delivery days and came with an airmail stamp.
In this case i left negative feedback as well as poor delivery stars.
This is the first neg I've ever left.
Now they keep emailing me outside of Ebay asking for the feedback to be removed, which is making me even more adamant.

    Not entirely accurate.
Amazon only 'makes' you mark the item as shipped to get your money, but gives the seller an unbelievable amount of time to actually get the item to the buyer.
I sold an item on 31/07 but they allow an estimated delivery of up to 17/08!
I could quite easily mark the item as sent on 01/08,claim my money and not actually post for over a week.

Just because a seller marks it as despatched doesnt prove it was though.

To me its the total time. Its been mentioned before a lot of ebayers expect it to arrive at the door minutes afer buying it.
Lots of seller appear to be able to sell an item late afternoon one day and get it to the buyer the next day.

It makes other sellers look slow.

Just reminded me now i forgot to bid on something. damn.

Can I ask a question please?

I can see my total stars on my 'seller dashboard' but is it possible to see stars given by the individual buyers?
    Many thanks

Given the other changes (automatic 5 stars for communication and for p&p charge) I could see a time when 24hour delivery from same day dispatch was an automatic 5 star.

That seems unfair, no idea what the buyer was expecting. I did have a low star left and despite the buyer telling me and EBay it was in error they wouldn't remove it, telling me they could only remove it if he had left a neg!

As for others, unfortunately people do expect next day delivery and they don't read dispatch time or even service used. So if it takes 3 days to arrive a 3 star feedback may not seem unreasonable to a buyer who receives items next day from many sellers.

It's an unfair system that sort of works on averages. If I was a more regular buyer I would only ever give 5 stars for exemplary service, but fortunately most buyers don't do it that way.

    In a word....NO!
If you have quite a low sales volume you can, with a bit of work, weedle the low stars to a specific buyer.
